Correct Deano, Picture 1 is sublime.

That curve is what makes it. It's like a Michelangelo sculpture.

Far left. Look at the symmetry in Jezza's hands - PERFECT. Utter perfection. No wonder speccies became known as 'Jezza's'.

Also, we can't overlook Jerker (try getting away with that nickname today) Jenkins role in this. Not only the perfect platform, but the way he arched his back and held his arm out was almost sculptural.

This may not be the highest or bravest mark ever taken, but it's the most elegant and beautiful (seen the live footage, where Jezza hits the ground like a cat?)

Up there with a Pele goal or a Jordan leap to the basket.

JEZZA!!!

You can have your Morecrofts, your Sampis, your Smiths, your Bosustows 8) your Barry's ( ) - but Jezza's mark will ALWAYS be the greatest mark in VFL/AFL History. 8)

I'm rapt that you all love the pics as much as I do.

I'm pretty sure I've got "The Age" version here too....I'll have a quick look if I can.

I thought some posters may have thought I was "living in the past" but.....nobody can erase the memory of being there that day and seeing THAT mark..
..and the second half fightback....and my favourite.....Jezza wheeling out of a pack at CHF and kicking an end over end kick with his left
foot over his left shoulder which bounced and bounced and bounced and outran the pack to tumble through the open goal to give us a 10 point lead
in time on in the last quarter.

We were all hugging each other in tears....there were no strangers there; we all loved each other because we had witnessed something out of the box...
..something very very special; and something to be so bloody proud of....we'd achieved the impossible....and in true Carlton style.

Agree...the one on the left is the classic, and it is the hands that make it...text book poetry in motion!

I have another one, not sure where I even got it from, if someone can tell me how I can put it in here, I will!![/img]

I love them all; but think the almost front on shot shows his poise and intense concentration as he waits for the ball to arrive......no closed eyes there!

In about February of 1984; my Wife and I travelled up to Bendigo to see a mate and his Family.

Our real mission that day however, was a Carlton Pre Season Intra Club Practice Match being held in Bendigo....
our long standing talent goldmine area.

This was a typical Pre Season opener of Possibles vs Probables, even at that early stage.

During the match which was typically very willing; we noticed this wiry, hard at it player who stopped at nothing to get a kick.

His name was Peter Dean from South Bendigo....he was 19.

Another player really stood out.....a fleet footed guy who ran up and down the wing all day....
his long, dark curly hair blowing in the wind behind him....his name was Tommy Alvin....he was 21, and from Bairnsdale;
and originally tied to Footscray, but their hold lapsed;
and Carlton swooped on him as we'd done with Jezza who had been originally signed by North Melbourne.

Surely there's some Tom Alvins and Peter Deans "up the bush" still to be found?....they still love their footy in the country?
Where is our next Stephen Oliver......or John Nicholls?

Peter Dean...1984-98...248 games....1987 and 1995 Premiership Player.

Tom Alvin....1984-94....218 games....1987 Premiership Player.

I just wonder if we spend too much time looking interstate.

And I'm not talking obviously about No.1 Draft Picks!

Top stuff Warbs - if your scanner ever shits itself I think we should pass the hat around to score you a replacement.

How f*cking good was Tommy Alvin? Loved the guy. So typically Carlton too - a little bit different, not the pretty boy looks or the fashionable stylish type that the Hawthorns and St Kildas of this world drool over - a straight up and down, 110% giving footballer - what you see is what you get.

I wonder what TA is doing these days? I hope he's enjoying his retirement - he gove us all so many happy memories.

If I recall, in his first year Peter Dean played at CHF in a few games and in one game in particular he tore Paul Roos another one.

Tommy Alvin has no need to leave the room when you're talking about courageous players. he's right up there with the best.

When he first started at carlton my dad complained he was running around in circles and no good. Not only did he change his mind but Alvin will always remain one of our favourite players.

I may have mentioned once before I was at South Melbourne market one day, about 10 years old, looking at scarves and badges at this stall. The lady asked who our favourite players were. I probably nominated the Dom. She asked if we liked Tommy Alvin. I naturally said yes and it turns out she was his sister. Lovely lady and we talked for a while about the Blues.
