They're playing the game, and showing just how much they suck at it

According to Jon Anderson’s Herald Sun article, press conference tomorrow at 10am. Won’t start official duties until late Oct.

Late Oct?

Wonderful.
Between his contract and that to pay out our current assistants, this fruitloop is going to cost us the best part of 2 million dollars next year.
I hope everyone enjoys shelling out their hard earned to pay for this fiasco.

As for Richardson, I dont know what he is so upset about. Its common knowledge Malthouse has a history of telling blatant untruths.
Richo would be better served to stay quiet, go elsewhere and win a premiership. He deserves better.

So we've got 6-7 weeks before he starts actually doing the job? :?

Funny how a thread has turned from "yes please" to heaping crap on MM. Everyone gets in line so they can blame the coach. Really...................................

Good article from Lane. This last bit sums up my thoughts

Quote:
In thinking long term, and looking for a model, the Blues need look no further than the team on top of the AFL ladder. In 2005, the Hawks took a major risk on a coach with no profile. They accepted a 32 per cent win rate through two seasons of rebuilding, won a flag two years later, and may win another this year. On current indications, it's likely they have a 10-year-plus coach. It's a reward for their courage, conviction and clear thinking.

It was the type of appointment Carlton of the past 50 years would never have made.

Given the events of today, should the club postpone their announcement on Mick?

I like the way he doesn't mention all the clubs who took major risks on coaches with no profile and didn't win flags.

I'm yet to see evidence as to whether a proper "process" or chasing experience or even pulling a name out of a hat is more likely to produce a flag but those pushing one barrow or the other seem highly selective in their supporting evidence.

I agree with this. You could us the Ross Lyon and Mark Neeld examples if you wanted to write a 'pro headhunt' 'anti process' piece but it still wouldn't give us any definitive answers.

I wouldn't think so. Unless of coarse Mick wants to postpone it, *snip*

It could be said also; that Carlton did take a chance on untried Coaches in Brittain and Ratten; the difference was that Clarkson has been a success; and they weren't.
