Why couldn't they have done some due diligence for once, like Hawthorn did with Clarko, and spend $400k on a coach and the other $600k into recruiting/development ???
Get rid of the old money sponge grump !
I dont think its about money. Mick's 1 million doesnt break the budget - its about whether he was the best person for the senior coaching position, whether Wiley is qualified and competent to be a director of coaching and development....whether the only FRESH coaching talent we could bring in was a green Brad Green because Mick liked him during an Irish tour.
There are lots of questions we can ask in hindsight.
Our footy department is one the best funded at almost 22 million per year. 8 million dollars more than Port's footy department.
The state of our list was in reasonable condition at the end of 2012 when Mick arrived. Even Mick acknowledged this and said he wouldnt tinker too much with the playing list.

One pre season and everything changes.
And its not just about your mids/rucks,. hawthorn was predicted to win the 2013 GF - Champion data had their mids/rucks ranked well below ours, but their defence was solid as well as forwards. They recruited the master midfield coach in Ratten to improve their stoppages and midfield work (their weakness which was exposed by the swans in the previous years GF loss). They also recruited a big Backman in Lake, who won the 2013 Norm Smith medal.

What Mick needed to do in the short term was improve out defence, and top 4 was very possible. that was his goal anyway. We ended up winning 11 games, the same as the previous year which was riddled with injuries.
Mick better a move on this year ladies and gentlemen although tanking has been flagged already to get a nice first round pick
