He's 27

Diesel has created a rare Houston-SDK hybrid. I'd be all over that, too.

must have been salary cap issues. if we can delist Owies for converting 12 (15) and 14 (17) into pick 3 (4) then there’s surely VFL players who are droppable for an elite talent like Dan Houston.

either that or Nic Austin and co got caught ball watching on Houston deals. or Graham Wright has a few iOUs to settle at Collingwood, lol! (joking).

Since when was Houston 23?

Of course he can’t, being played out of position

Poor trading if for a F2

Aside from freeing up list-spots I just don't see why we'd trade Kemp... Or at least I don't see why we'd do it for anything other than something ridiculous.

Given how injury prone the list is it would be very disappointing to lose Kennedy, particularly given his versatility and commitment.

If we trade out Kennedy then maybe we are looking at Devon Robertson.

Who in the ressies are legitimate chances to break through next year with the likes of Owies, Kemp and Kennedy gone? Moir? Others are a bit vanilla aren't they?

There seems to have been a massive pivot.
We started the silly season with Haynes looking at Houston as if we were going to top up.
Now we are all in going for kids and moving on established players.

It appears that they think we are not ready to have a dip for 2 to 3 years which makes Haynes pick up all the more confusing

One of the latest rumours is Kennedy for Caleb Daniel and pick 63.

Brisbane were written off earlier in the year. And not just for the season, but this era’s window had closed. Then Zorko was moved back, they brought in a few kids no one thought could make a difference and now they are Premiership favourites for the next 2 seasons!

Too often on this site, we tend to fear instead of looking to the opportunities.

Maybe, for example, Haynes comes in and has an immediate impact (he is better than Kemp imo although not sure how his age affects things). And the #3 mid we have in mind is capable of having an immediate impact. And we have a few less injuries, enabling Doc, Saad, Newman, McGovern to combine better. And Williams has a whole summer to work on his forward craft. With Moir, Binns and Lord getting some opportunities after getting a taste this year. And Wilson.
And we still have arguably the best spine in the comp, certainly top 3.
AND, we now have extended our window with an injection of high end youth, plus Camporeale plus Walker a couple of years away when fresh talent will be hard to come by…

Maybe, we’re setting ourselves up for success. Maybe Collingwood are setting themselves up for a long period at the bottom of the ladder after next year @Brisbane2004.

Chins up people!

Hmm, interesting. Cut price Houston alternative? I didn't understand why he was on the outers at WB. Good ball user. Not sure about his defensive side or pace.

I like the enthusiasm.

I think one of the biggest concerns is the 6 oldest players on the list and that they all play a similar position and may all retire in the next 1-3 years leaving a massive hole.
Rebounding defenders:
Nic Newman - 32
Sam Docherty - 31
Adam Saad - 30
Zac Williams (possible fwd) - 30

Medium defenders:
Nick Hayes - 32
Mitch McGovern - 30

The next inline players are:
Rebounding defenders:
Alex Cincotta - 28
Jordan Boyd - 26
Lachlan Cowan - 20
Billy Wilson - 19

Medium defenders:
Brodie Kemp - 23

As an example at 27 Dan Houston would've slotted in perfectly with the next inline players age wise and would've been a Doc or Saad to that group.
So I see SB's point also in questioning us changing tact and going more to youth when we will still could potentially have holes in top talent in those areas in the next couple of years.

As it stands, our list composition is either:

Primary 36, Category A 6, Category B 2… or,
Primary 35, Category A 7, Category B 2

The variance being whether Lucas attracts a bid, or we prelist him before the rookie draft.

Adding two first round picks would put us at either the maximum 38, or 37 players on the primary list.

Hence, the second round pick can be moved as it was going to be used for Ben regardless. Expect to hear his name closer to pick 50 than 30.

If we use both 12 & 14 (likely 15 & 18 when said & done), we’ll have 46 players on the list. Two over the limit…

Trading Owies and turning two picks into one puts the ‘virtual’ list at 44 players.

However, to get to the minimum 36 players on the Primary list, we are now either forced to add Lucas in the ND, or upgrade one from the Cat. A list.

Or, find another draft pick without losing another player.

By the time Ashcroft, Lombard, Kako & Marshall are off the board, we’ll have the points to match a bid on either of the boys in the 30s. Brisbane don’t have the points to cover both Ashcroft & Marshall if Richmond bid on the former at #1, so we’re a fair way off counting our chickens.
