Nah...he can play in the NB's for the next 3 years if that's his bag. Having said that I don't think that's his bag. Time will tell.

We had to hit rock bottom to get him with pick 1, and develop him, and get Judd in to expedite his development, and pay him handsomely for some below par performances, and gave him the opportunity to live his dream as a one club player by giving him a 5 year contract...no way we did anything wrong.

Everyone knows and says openly Adelaide need a player of his ilk to help them deal with their glaring weakness in the midfield. They offered us pick 13 for an umknown and a player they discarded pick 63. That does not come close to pick 1 and a strong bodied, resilient 200 game player and club champion, who faired well in the Brownlow and has another 5 years of great footy ahead of him. Adelaide wouldn't offer Carlton pick 13 and maybe pick 16 for a Pick 1 proven player who could help them win a premiership. They disgust me if they think we were unreasonable.

Anyone would agree they would have to pay overs for a contracted player and they didn't. Now they are sooking after they derailed a bottom 4 team's trade period. Disgusting bulliy behaviour imo.

I couldn't agree more, although the sooking is probably more about the fact that they failed to get the deal done, despite how important it was for their Premiership aspirations. After the dust settles, they will realise they made a mistake in not offering more for him. They, or their fans, won't publicly acknowledge this, so they'll continue to whinge about how stupid and unrealistic Carlton was, and how all the other teams agree with them....blah blah blah. Simply put, Gibbs is still a Carlton player. They didn't close the deal.

Hopefully we hear from SOS or someone from the club soon. We need to get on the front foot and put these idiots in their place.

Definately. Hawthorn set the benchmark yet again, with Clarkson getting his message out to the masses and media when Hawks supporters wanted to burn their place down. I heard SOS was out the trade door and on a plane to Italy, so maybe Bolts should get involved and do a warm fuzzy media release through the CFC website, reminding Blues fans why Gibbs in Blue is a win for us, and how we're going to help him and his family out etc. The losses always hurt less after the press conference. This could use some media spin.

There might be a gentlemen's agreement between us and Hawthorn that they will steer away from a few players in the draft given the assistance we gave them over O'MEARA.

Better be... was a massive leg up for them considering the effort they had already gone to. Not getting JOM would have been a huge blow to their trade strategy.

No bid on Fyfe or maybe let us win a game against them! Still, its Clarkson so even if their was an agreement, unless its written in his blood I doubt he would keep it. Which is why they win so much, ruthless.

I agree. It's always a worry when we've got to rely on Andy McKay to represent the club. His explanation for why we traded picks with Hawthorn wasn't convincing. Must be more going on than the club are prepared to publicly state.

Interesting thoughts. Clearly there's got to be something going on that we don't know about and the clubs don't want to make public. The early rumour was that Sicily was part of the deal. Maybe something went wrong there. Or maybe there's something else going on like you suggest.

So we've added 2 more runners with real pace. One talented young KPP. And a hardened, experienced body for the midfield.

So what else do we need? I would have thought a talented goalkicker: someone like Ainsworth or Taranto. Or perhaps another KPF like Marshall or Battle or Kerr.

And obviously as much AFL midfield talent as we can find.

Would be happy to take Kerr or Battle with our pick 25.

Kerr, well because of the romance of it all, and Battle because he just looks like a good forward option.

How many places do we have left on our list? There are still quite a few uncontracted players so I guess we will soon hear of further delistings or re-signings.

That's what I'm wondering too. That late trade with the Hawks for 3 later picks makes me think we are looking to draft 5 maybe 6 more players.

That's a lot still to turn over.

Maybe some "in limbo" types, such as Richard, Barlow, Grimes etc.

So by my count we now have 37 on the primary list.

If we take 6 picks in the draft we need to cut 3 more players.

?????

So as best as I can tell, its 38 players on the list with 6 Cat A rookies, and 3 Cat B rookies. If we don't use both Veteran slots (for the purpose of reducing their wage by half, for the salary cap) we may nominate rookies, who can be selected as though they were on the senior list. We have Grandpa Simpson, so we can nominate one rookie.

Up to 3 rookies can be retained for a 2nd or 3rd year. Others they have to be elevated or delisted.

Seniors are:

Silvagni, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, Buckley, Kreuzer, Cripps, McKay, Kerridge, Boekhorst, Lamb, Jones, Docherty, DVR, Rowe, Jaksch, Sumner, Plowman, Tutt, Weitering, Whiley, Armfield, Cuningham, Charlie Curnow, Graham, Everitt, Phillips, Ed Curnow, Gorringe, Thomas, Casboult, White, Wright

That's 34 players with the addition of:

Marchbank, Pickett, Smedts, and Palmer

Senior list is now 38

Rookies:

Sheehan, Gowers, Byrne, Gallucci, JGM, Korcheck (Cat B)

So I think they'll elevate Byrne, but put him straight on the Long Term Injury List.

They can only offer 3 rookies extensions beyond a year, so I think they'll keep JGM, Gallucci. This means we fairwell Sheehan, Gowers, and Korcheck.

Since you have to use at least 3 picks in the draft we need to delist 4 (if my guess on elevating Byrne is correct).

The talkingcarlton contract tracker has Tutt out of contract so I'd start by delisting him. I thought he had one year left to go though??? Sad he didn't make it. Loved his explosiveness but rued his disposal efficiency. I think they'll delist Whiley. They had Graham in front of him for midfield depth. DVR hasn't developed fast enough so I think he'll be gone. In a best case scenario, he'll be picked up during the Rookie draft and we'll give him another year that way. Due to our forward line concerns, I can't see us delisting Everitt. I think they'll give him another year. That means we move either Graham or Buckley. Since we'll be recruiting a midfielder with Pick 5, and we just brought in Palmer for depth, I'd delist Graham (with some regret because I've always liked his tackle rate). Lets himself down with decision making with the ball. Buckley shows glimpses and deserves another year.

Delistings: Sheehan, Gowers, Korcheck, Tutt, Whiley, DVR, Graham

That gives us 3 picks in the draft with Pick 5, 25, 48 (before academy etc). I think I'd leave pick 63 alone because either Everitt or Buckley would have to make way for them, and I don't think pick 63 would a better option.

That also gives us 3 rookie selections.

DVR selected as a rookie.

While I would suggest DVR as the nominated rookie, I think their is more to gain by letting all the Rookies know that there are 'no limits' and that there is a spot up for grabs. Award the nominated rookie to the player who works for it during the pre-season. Likewise, I would elevate JGM or Gulluci for the injured Byrne, or use it as further incentive for the Rookies to prove their worth.

Should be pretty exciting to watch.

Nice work Talrahir.

Although if we only draft 3 players it means we basically swapped the gws 2017 second rounder (say pick 32-36) for this years pick 48, as we won't be using the other two picks we got from the Hawks. So I think we'll probably be drafting more players otherwise that Hawks trade makes even less sense.

I can't recall seeing that

Upside to this years trading
All 4 are former 1st round draft picks
All four came from sides that finished well above us on the ladder. In previous years we tended to trade in blokes who struggled to get games from teams that were below us

Downside is all 4 have had injury concerns
