I don't know, mate ... the injuries were bad. but some of our worst performances in 24 came with our best (on paper at least) team selected. we won more games this year (as we did on the 8 game win streak last year) using fringe players and backups.

it might be hard or unpalatable to some to blame voss and cripps. but i'm doing it anyway. high performance and rehab played a massive role too, and apparently the turf at princess park.

i watch my son who's 14 do amateur boxing. he's part of a great stable of fighters. and when anyone in our stable lose, it's not a loss, it's a lesson.

the kids are taught to be accountable and honest. it's such a basic concept. and it's still one cfc just doesn't ever grasp or comprehend. and to be really honest (and a little vulnerable on a forum board here), the constantness of the club's egos, stubbornness and arrogance for decade after decade - it breaks my heart.

we're all sad addicts here. addicted to something that just doesn't love us back.

I get where you're coming from braithy re Voss and Crippa. No shame in that. Hold your ground if that's what you really feel. Not necessarily right but its a position you are prepared to support.

Yep, we're all addicts. Rusted on supporters.

You never cease to surprise me. A 14yo son. Congrats. I hope he stops boxing when the hits to the head start feeling harder and harder. My 16yo was doing a bit of boxing, but I put a stop to that when I noticed the hits were getting bigger.

I'm sure the club wants to do the right thing. I don't think we are far off, and our window will be open for a while longer.

Really important to fight out the rest of the season for more good reasons than bad.

Glad the surface at Princes Park will be fixed. A few have been blaming the surface for a while despite the resurfacing effort from 10 years back.

Go Blues.

i can't shake the nagging feeling of this: our signature through last season and the wins this year was team before all else. and there's just a bit of evidence out there, that maybe the individual forces of some, started to override the team first mantra. something was really wrong, maybe even absent in the last 6-7 weeks on the field.

i feel like it rests (at a bare minimum) with the leadership. captain and coach. if there's even an inkling of truth to what voss and doc said about pittonet's inclusion. that 1 or 2% shift was all our tiny little train needed to be derailed.

ahh! my son is a little legend. this'll surprise you even more - I've solo raised him for the last 6 years too. had to put everything on hold, but it all pails in comparison to watching him shine. he wants to go pro, and fight in vegas ... i'll get you ringside tickets if he ever makes it.

Yeah, and I gave you a light hearted quip back.

Ah, the old light hearted 12 page essay. The cornerstone of all breezy discourse. :D

Interesting reflecting on comments from Hoyne/Champion Data from June 26

Daniel Hoyne: “Two parts with the Blues, I just want to jump on & talk about the Tom De Koning phenomenon that is actually happening at the moment. So he's been the #1 rated player on the ground the last 3 matches, that's only ever happened 29 times before.

The performances he's doing at the moment is phenomenal, further to that his last 4 matches are the best 4 week streak we have ever seen from a ruckman.”

Kane Cornes: “What's he doing well in particular? I know [all the basic stats] but why is he rating so highly?”

Daniel Hoyne: “There's just so much scoreboard return that comes from what he's actually doing at the moment, so the last 5 games in particular he's generated 18 scores from clearance - no one else has actually done that in the competition.

The only other players that are up there & you're talking about Adam Treloar, Nick Daicos, the absolute gun midfielders. For him to be in that conversation is phenomenal, in terms of what he's actually doing.”

Daniel Hoyne: “Then just from a Carlton perspective, I think we can all sort of agree that they're flying at the moment & probably in that top 2, top 3 conversation but there's still significant room for improvement with this team which is exciting.

And I think it's what they're doing defensively & more from actually how they're defending clearance - how they're defending turnover at the moment is absolutely superb, it's rock solid but in terms of when the oppo win a clearance & get it on the scoreboard Carlton are the 3rd easiest team in the competition to do that against.

They've given up the 4th most points of any team from clearance, so that's where your back 6-7 are under the most stress I think & where they have to defend for their lives for that 20, 30 second period.

That's the only area at the moment where Carlton need to tidy up & strengthen & I think though & it sounds stupid it's not bad to have something to improve at this time of year.”

it still eats at me what weddle said about us, and how we don't work both ways thru the middle and fall away in games.

... if our club and the guys in it, have even the bare minimum of self-respect and pride in the jumper; that goes on posters in the rooms all preseason long, and they toughen the fk up.

they've been called out and exposed. how do they respond?

Ideally we and Hawks meet in an elimination final so someone can take out Weddle in the first five minutes. That'll tell us whether this playing group deserves another round in 25.

I mean, I don't even think Weddle's claim was accurate. We have run games out just fine... we stormed back against Collingwood, GWS, Geelong the first time. Our problem has been the big dip in Q2 and/or Q3. Weddle was taking the piss because he's just a little scrote. We shouldn't let it get to us - this Hawthorn team is designed to irritate (man I wish we had been in for Gin'van) - but he still needs to be taught a lesson if we're for real.

We seemed to regularly see opposition scroats pop up in after game interviews who stick the knife in, does anyone remember the last Carlton player to act that way?

it's totally true, and our defensive stats on the season back it up, espesh around stoppages. we don't work hard and don't run both ways.

imo, we shouldn't sugar coat it, but we should use it to drive us to be better.

We had Weiters before a St Kilda game essentially saying he was having an extra week's rest because it was only Saints, and they duly put us to the sword. So we've tried it, but we did it arse over tit as per.

I thought he specifically said we would fade in the final quarter, and that they said that pre-game, not in response to injuries. Might be wrong. Smash the cauliflower anyway to be safe.

he did say that, but the implication and emphasis in the interview was around how we stop running and working as a midfield and we're gettable.

the whole league knows it, and has made us their bitch in the last half of 2024. and it really burns at my craw, greatex

and really ... 4th qtr may be inaccurate. our 2nd qtrs have been a league worst in for and against.

so swap 4th for 2nd

Nothing would please me more than for Hawthorn to miss finals after their player selfie on Sunday.

Why bother. Surely you have better things to do than concern yourself over a team that wears a jumper reminding everyone of poos and wees!
