I think that the so calle "disconnect" is a convenient excuse for supporters who haven't joined - and refuse to join.
They don't feel valued. They don't feel like a membership represents value. What does it even mean to be "disconnected," I've asked people and they can't answer it. They just know they feel disconnected.
The reality is Carlton, as far as I'm concerned, has the most negative, pessimistic, fair weathered, entitled, unrealistic fan base in the league.
If we had come off the season a team such as Port Adelaide had (and they're a terrific example of what I'm about to say) we'd have more members. Not because of better engagement. Not because of a shiny new venue. But because fans would think we're a chance and they'd want to be a part of it. Our fans, like our club, some may say, didn't adapt and evolve to the changing landscape. We don't appreciate how difficult it is to be successful.
I'll cut the likes of Cretylus and Synbad off here by saying port adelaide are a well run, exciting club. And we've made some errors in admin, drafting and the like. But when port weren't good no one wanted a bar of them. Fact. They tarped off seats and couldn't attract sponsors. No one gave two hoots about them, their fans chief amongst that number, until they started winning games.
For mine, Carlton fans are [REDACTED] who have swarmed to this "disconnected" line not as the cop out it is, but the line they yearned for to relieve or excuse them of having to join up.
What Carlton fans want more than anything is wins. They just can't seem to admit thats the missing ingredient. Its engagement. It's not getting a discount in the shop. Its a renewal website (which, as far as I'm aware, is a template site forced on them by the league). It's the fixture (once again, the club can request particular things, but the AFL might choose to ignore them all together). Its game times (too many night games last year. Too many day games this year).
When and if Carlton start winning games more regularly the number will naturally swell. That's it.
......and you're a [REDACTED] who only comes on here to say how enjoyable it is to [REDACTED] of the people who've driven this club into the ground.
Feed that back to the board [REDACTED].
Precisely the reason I don't post summed up in just two sentences.
If you don't think Carlton fans are what they are: front running, bandwagon jumping, entitled, negative [REDACTED] you mustn't speak to many. The feeling I get from a lot of these 'supporters' is a disconnect when we aren't winning. They seem to take an under-performing team personally.
The shit our 'supporters' spew from the stands is embarrassing a lot of the time. I sit near a guy who spends the whole game criticising every aspect of every performance; even when we're winning. He's not alone. Come on here and it's the same stuff on repeat.
And this disconnect, again, is convenient bs spewed by people who just don't want to be members.
What do they want? A discount in the shop? They offer that already. Change in admin? From what we keep hearing thats well underway. New CEO, COO, CFO... All fairly important positions. All re-cast with new people.
Change isn't immediate. Success isn't either. The joint is in the middle of a quite substantial rebuild, one that only begun this pre season.
How about giving them a chance before writing the place of?
Disconnect... Whatever. Watch the team play if you want. Pay to do it if you'd like. Don't if you don't feel like it. It's all up to you, it's all your choice.
So the fans are front runners now?
Lol
What's that mean? What competition are we in?
The fan competition?
I think you have the same club affliction as the powers that be.. You're not understanding the tile of the footy club and the conduit to it's supporters and blaming the supporters.
Sorry... You're out of touch..
That's a common disease around this football club.
Let me put it this way.. How does a club blame it's actual supporter base as front running?
Has it drafted it from somewhere and not not put in the required psychological background check?
How does a body of supporters have in their DNA the blanket apathetic gene?
You're beginning to sound much like Robbie and Moulton etc.
That's what's discussed at board level? The mysterious blanket apathetic gene across Carlton supporters?
You would come to that conclusion if you're totally stupid and you don't understand how to connect.
The club has a massive divide between elitism and the common person.
The club also has a massive misunderstanding on how clubs should be functioning. Of course when I mention the word 'club " in not talking about the club itself but about those who direct and produce the club...
The mere word club by definition is not what this club is..
The audacity to blame us for where we're spending our personal and private funds is shameful.
The club competes against all kinds of things in peoples lives.
The fact that it doesn't wish to compete and demands without accountability is where the problem lies.
These suits are not accountable in their minds but expect us to pass on our money without question.
Have they considered an independent review of the football club from top to bottom to make it all transparent to where they want my funds given?
No!
Why not?
Theres a sense of entitlement by the club as to what I should do with my money and they're unaccountable.
I think the problem lies there.. You don't?
If you don't you're an idiot!
If you believe supporters must separate themselves with their money because they're now fanboi drones you and the people running the club are so totally out of touch it's laughable.
Just out of ideas...
Please leave and we will find someone with ideas.
Lazy unimaginative is exactly what's wrong with this football club and it's not the supporters.
Ten years ago I bought around ten silver memberships for family that were not members just to help out.
How dare you idiotic sods and low lives question what I do with my money.
You can hold the emotional handgun to my head and try to threaten me with meaningless words like " I am not Carlton' all you like it won't work.
If you wanted to show some truthfulness and accountability some signs your serious about turning things around and had a full independent review of the football club from top to bottom it will go a long way to helping me change my mind.
Otherwise as much as I love the club I'm not giving money to a drug addict.. Somebody that's going shoot it all up his arm for a quick fix ...
