Roos didn't want to come to carlton, was our first choice and was approached. The crap about saving money is also incorrect as isn't Roos on 2mil?
You can stroke yourself yourself about Roos and hinkley but have a look at their early draft picks
Malthouse also isn't taking the money and running after 2 years and a few wins over juddless carlton and a watsonless asada weakened Essendon***

I wish Mick would take the money and run....but then why would he leave when nothing is his fault or his responsibility.

Roos didn't want to coach anywhere in 2012 when we approached him but was open to coaching in 2013. And I am looking at Melbourne's early draft picks and I am not seeing much

..viney, Salem, tyson, Hogan (they hope his back won't go the way of jako)..

Look at Melbourne's last 5 year draft picks. Basically 12 picks in top 25 & 8 in top 10 in 5 drafts and gifted Viney. Not counting Grimes and Dunn who were 14 and 15 from 2008. (The pick has been replaced by the traded player)

Pick 1. scully, watts
Pick 2. Tyson, Trengrove
Pick 3 Hogan
Pick 4. Toumpas, Cale Morton
Pick 9 Salem
Pick 12 Cook
Pick 17 Blease
Pick 23 Vince
Pick 26 Viney Father Son

Good Late Picks are kent 30s Kennedy Harris 40 Fitzpatrick 53

..sure, I was just assuming you meant their young kids, after all that's what actually matters when considering their future.. ..the young kids that they have on their list.... ..who are our under twentyone 'stars' that rate better than those I named.. ..i'll give you Menz, and then..?..

Not sure what your point is guys. By any measure the Demons have being really bad at the draft. Lynden Dunn was drafted in 2004 and is finally having a good year. Trengove was in the 2s till he got injured. Watts is a talented, erratic under performer, Scully is not there anymore, Hogan has never played. Morton is a dud, Toumpas can't get a game, Salem has played about 4 games. Who are Cook and Blease? Since when are Kent, Kennedy Harris and Fitzpatrick good late picks?

And BKB, if we are comparing players u21 then we are looking a long way ahead for any success.

..I was more making the point that the dee's have some kids that look very good, we have one, maybe two.. ..yes we have some serviceable types, some that may forge decent careers.... ..those dee's kids look like the sort you build a team around.. ....hell we can raise the age up to 24, looking ahead we still don't have much coming through.. ..Tyson and viney will be the nucleus of their midfield, salem will run through there.. ..yes viney is a father son, and good luck to them since they have a poor record for father sons in our time.. ..but looking at their list, if you were a coach that wanted to set down a foundation and create a culture, roos could do a lot worse than the Melbourne kids..

The point is that Roos foundation is better than Malthouse and apart from Menzel Malthouse has started to build the list on the back of some very canny trading & not a lot of great picks
Hampson for Pick 32 ontraded for Pick 39 (Giles) & Everett
Betts for Thomas
Docherty for pick 33.

Foundation yes but in terms of personnel for this year it's debatable.

Turned the Dees into a defensive machine yet since Carlton's coaching change the club is leaking points. This with Roos having to play Lynden Dunn at full back, having to move Frawley forward because of Clark retiring; Dawes injured, Garland injured for a chunk.

Proved Gerry's point highlighting the rubbish drafting they had for a while.

I don't get what's so good about defending so hard you can't even score.
It's kinda pathetic.

It does keep you in the game - you may not score a lot but neither do the opposition. It does give the team a chance to run over the top of the opposition (see last week Vs the cheats).
