After following the link sent by Dom 7 and reading the story re the GC game it is hard to feel sorry for him. He is young, very immature and maybe isolated, certainly a long way from home, but his behaviour even considering all that is dreadful. He ain't going to feel good about it when he is 35 and struggling in a crap job. The only thing I'd say about the leadership with the players is that most of them seem like introverts and there doesn't seem to be many personalities there to draw the group as a whole together.

Given our performances up there in recent years, I doubt his mindset is much different to the rest of the list in regards to treating the GC like a holiday.

Possibly the only one dumb enough to act on it. And that covers some territory.

I don't have Instagram so I am not really sure how it works...

But if he posted a picture to Instagram at the same time as his team was playing, wouldn't his followers (particularly Carlton supporters who knew that he was named in the selected side but had pulled out) notice this? Why would this be only coming out now?

There's a fair bit of (poor) Photoshopping going on in that link, but the words in the story are enough anyway.

I wonder if someone actually got some of those details (i.e. the photo caption and the stuff written on his chest) from the victim or someone in the know? Probably just speculating, but it wouldn't surprise me either way.

The photo with the words written on his chest and the caption looked pretty aggressive. No wonder the mother allegedly freaked. I gather it was the final of more than a few straws.

And there I had been - wondering why Bootsma didn't seem to be developing as a player when he appeared to have some natural talent...

His life is going to become a whole lot tougher after this. Not a good place for an immature young man to be in. I hope for his sake that it somehow makes him wake up and become a better person. I get no joy out of seeing this happen to anyone.
