Tuscany, France. Lovely spot

I think he's going to Bordeaux

Is he? I lived there for part of 1997....or was it 1998? I'm afraid the blended reds of the Château Cos d'Estournel have clouded my once immaculate memory. I lived above the squash courts in a two bedroom apartment. Next door was a Moroccan restaurant. The owner had a daughter. Stunning young thing. She was keen to better her English, and I my French - so for the benefit of international relations I acquiesced to her demands. I don't even recall her name, but couscous never tasted so good.

Blues by 27.

Aaah you romantic, you.

I've heard it called a few things in my time but 'couscous' is a first!

Will be adopting 'couscous' as an official lunch room colloquialism from now on.

Funny stuff.

I feel we are one tall man short...sounds weird that.

They have a hard at it midfield. Relentless and fearless.
That's where we win or lose the game.

Rowe and Kennedy combo in the forwardline can work again.

Curnow Cachia McLean Carrazzo and even Scotland aren't speedy but they are hard at the ball types so I'm hoping we hit them hard and constant from the word go.

So glad Murphy is playing.

I thought I would've screamed if Robbo wasnt selected, but I'm calm.
All we have to do is stand up to these pricks and wear them down

Blues by 15 points

Murphy won't play

2011. Tight game all night before Gibbs kicked the sealer late IIRC.

Before that was 2009 by about 10 points, and the time before that was 2004 by a narrow margin as well.

Three times in nine years. :yikes:

Everyone is tipping North because Carlton lack hardness and toughness and are easily bullied.

You know I look back at the photos of the 1940s teams of the Blues and every single one of them look as tough as nails.

Image

I look at the team of today and say a good percentage of them are high placed draft picks, ensconced happily in a mediocre team, happy to accept middle of the road. They look great on the outside but don't have the will for battle. You look at that Carlton team from the 1940s - none would accept mediocrity. They would make it a bruising affair for the opposition no matter what.

If Carlton physically refuse to be bullied and pummel some of the North midfielders this week then they are in with a shot. Have a target- Ziebell etc. Make sure your bumps/tackles etc stings him. That is the Carlton way of old.

On another point - I have been reading The Rise of the Swans book.

On the back it states their team rules were - "Hard, disciplined, relentless- this is the culture of the Bloods."

I thought this quote was really interesting (pp 128)

"When discussing the Swans's recruiting successes, it is worth nothing that the 2012 premiership team had just two top-ten draft selections (Carlton by the way has seven)." Also six of the Swans's premiership players were obtained via trades.

This was the key part for me:
"The Swans had begun recruiting players to fit its culture, with a particular emphasis on hardness."

You look at Hannebery, Parker, Smith, Johnson etc and you go - yeah that is right. This team is full of hard at it footballers.
You look at Carlton and you think, yeah, there are a lot of slick players who like the spotlight but aren't hard- like the Swans footballers. That is where Carlton is going wrong with their recruiting in my opinion. Not enough toughness.

I think you'll find Judd kicked the most important goal of the night, set shot from about 52, the week Oscar was born.

Petrie has been disappointing this year. What are the odds he kick starts his season against us with a 6 goal haul??

Any idea when we'll find out about Murphy for tonight? I have selfish reasons for wanting to know pre game time.

Its cause if you are tough, you are not a very nice mummys boy.

Been harping on about this for a very very long time.......

We dont stress about their performance on the field, just as long as we love them off it...... Dont you all know that.....

Picked against us in my tips.
Couldn't muster the courage to pick us against a Norf side that ll have a head full of steam following the pantsing they've copped in the media.
