Bagging a 2nd year KPD with 3 games of experience is ridiculous.

am I missing something but how is Curnow getting a game. Runs around like a headless chook with average skills. I'm being a bit harsh but he is a definite weak link in our team. Hope he proves me wrong this week.

I also think he's been very average this year.
I thought he was great last year before the injury but a bit let down since.
His disposal looks extremely weak.

I'm pretty sure I see teams tagging Judd, Murphy, Simpson, etc every week and you know what, they dont like it, I wished he would have tagged Dangerfield a few weeks ago.

Curnow will not be dropped. He is the new Carrazzo. He does team jobs every week that most people don't see, plus Ratts loves him and loves that he will run harder and further than anyone else in our team.

I watched him closely last week. He was helping Judd. At every stoppage, he would try to man up on the player tagging Judd, which meant his player would try go to Judd, but Curnow would try take him too. So effectively, he was trying to man up two players at the stoppage and trying to free up Judd.

Not saying it worked, but that was the plan and thats Curnow's role in the team, like it or hate it.

Curnow gets to contest after contest and his job is not to let the ball out unless its on our terms. Watch for how many times he forces ball ups. The issue i have is playing Ellard, Mclean and Curnow in the same team. Could leave us open defensively if the ball does get outside on their terms. Catch could be that if you do play all 3 it may not come out on their terms.

On taggers, I dont really see us doing the hard tag where we are holding blokes and looking away from the ball. Ellard was a tag last week and he got 30. Carrots tags Pendlebury and get 28 and goals. Could be something we are doing different to other teams.
Dont bang your head over it.

Midfield run won't be required; we'll just roost it from HBF to HFF

We have to be above letting that bother us. As someone pointed out a page back, it didnt bother the saints when they tagged 2 or 3 of our blokes and they were hard tags not like the ones we are applying.

Loving the inclusion of Watson.

Hope they give him an extended run of games (at least 6), as a key position FORWARD!

Hope we do well but with the inclusion of Watson and having 3 ruckman looks one of the most top heavy sides we have ever fielded
Lacks a bit of pace with all of them in there too

Great that we are giving Watson a crack. We need to see what he can do at senior level, now while the KPP's are injured
Disappointed Lucas has been dropped. Yes you need to pump games into him. His 17 games probably equate to 10 given his sub role in 2.5 seasons. If we had a team of world beaters I would understand the "earn your spot mentality" but there are at least 3 players in that side that have played no better.

I'd say it's because they know how much better he can be.

BANG! and there you have it.

Imagine him and Bootsma playing together in the backline - the changing of the guard....or the adding to the guard....

Hope Buckley and Lucas play blinders for the VFL... And any other kids on the list - we need depth.

Here,Here.................I actually like Watson even though he aint shooting the lights out in the VFL.A kid that big with his thumping left boot shouldnt be dismissed so early.Dont think his pace is his problem,i think its his agility that can be improved.First thing i would be doing is chucking him a skipping rope and tell him to get to work. There is nothing in the world better than a skipping rope to improve a big ungainly types agility.Would do wonders for the kid.

Skipping will help but what he really needs is to be hurdling and jumping from a standing start. It can work wonders and I used it with great success with alot of fat and frumpy kids that I have coached. Watson lacks spring in his step and hurdling will aid that. I just wonder whether Darren Harris can work that one out.

Really happy with the inclusion of Watson.
He will be good at this level.
Have been hoping to use his booming kick over the press.

Geez it's amazing that the only players not selected and available with AFL experience is Collins, Lucas and Russell.
Buckley and Kerr are waiting in the wings (untried and doubts on Kerr).
Cupboard is bare, and really worried for the future of Russell.
With the huge injury list, he hasn't even been considered as emergency...and that's against a team form his home state. A team he usually players well against....help improve his currency perhaps???? Perhaps not.
I don't get it.

Good team. Iike the mix of grunt and class of Judd Gibbs and Robinson. I think they're all good sized bodies for mids.
Expecting McLean to do a fair bit.
Good idea to wait for the heat in pace disipates before coming on, if that's the reason he starts on IC.
Rotating in the midfield is the support cast of McLean Ellard Curnow and Armfield.

I really like the balance and our ability to throw some big bodies into the midfield if needed like Kreuzer, Scotland and Walker.
I like the improved commitment to intensity and Ratts throwing in extra numbers around the ball.

On their ground....with more Blues support. Good night..........Blues by 42 points.

AJ was really good against melb ...

And we obviously need small defenders, not a shock he is in the team

Goodluck Watson!

Cut the kid some slack.

How long did it take for Tomahawk to show anything???

IMO Armfield, Curnow and AJ very lucky. They are lucky Ratten is gutless! :banghead:

My goodness this is getting old. Every week you come on here and bemoan our selections, and tell us Ratts doesn't know what he's doing, should be picking this guy, don't know how this guy gets a game, put Waite on the wing.

You might have a very general idea of the role the players have, but like the rest of us, and this certainly includes me, you wouldn't know how the players are being judged by the MC. A guy like BV who has a better understanding than most of how the modern game is played has made mention of how he understands Curnow's role many times.

How is Ratten gutless because you can't figure it out?

I'm going to give you the benefit of attending training...but why do you think you know our team better from your 10 hours a week as opposed to the 60-70+ hrs (and I'm probably under estimating this) Ratts is watching games, talking to the players, his assistants, medical staff, and everything else involved with being the senior coach.

Perhaps you don't know what you're talking about :donk:
