As opposed to.. say... taking a bloke a #3 with a balsa wood spine and the worst ball drop in the history of the AFL? How's that pick working out for you?

Won't be surprised if they rest a few here knowing full well they have no hope & just prepare themselves for the maggots 5 days later.

Will not happen for two reasons:

1. We hate Carlton
2. We have no reserves left

You win some you loose some. You traded pick 12 for Brock Mclean

I'd go as far as saying he's the best one on one player we have.....can't remember the last time Gibber got beat.

Love him to death & he'll be a triple premiership player by the time he retires & will quash any comparisons that have been raised between him & Joel Selwood.

They'll just play Ryder and rest the others - he's all they need.
I assume wankstain is word of the week again?

Seems to take a lot of contested marks and setup a lot of goals for a guy who can just kick and sits on the half back line. Brendan Goddard says hi?

He is though and by a fair margin. Don't get me wrong Kreuzer is gooad and more consitant but Ryder in his currant form shits all over him from a great height.

The only thing Ryder is good for at the moment is getting over the top of his opponents. Let's take a quick look at his opponents thus far:

In the ruck:
Zac Smith (GC)
Josh Fraser (GC)
Jarrad Redden (Port)
Daniel Stewart (Port)
Todd Goldstein (North)
Hamish McIntosh (North)

I mean he didn't even have a genuine opponent versus Port, and you lot are fapping that he got 46 taps...

And for arguments sake let's look at who had him when he was up forward versus the Gold Coast:
Warnock
Lynch

Let's face it, Tom Bellchambers could have racked up these numbers if he was given first crack. Your two-bit ruck combination is actually the opposite of what you think it is.

My advice: draft another genuine ruckman to develop with Bellchambers, tell Ryder to hit the gym and put him at CHF and a secondary ruck role. You'll work this out in about 3 years, but don't say I didn't try to save you the trouble.

Crazy talk.
We need someone that gets us excited before he even touches the ball.
Rioli or bust.

Without setting out to compare, Gibbs' status is most likely to go up couple of pegs before this year is through.
Let's just see what happens when we finally come to terms in him being more valuable forward and on the ball, opposed to the stopping roles, we bestow upon him.

Squibbs clearly has not watched any Carlton games this season. I've watched all of Essendon*'s and all of Carlton's.

Ryder is in brilliant form. He is an absolute plus. It'll be very interesting to see how he goes against a Kreuzer/Hampson duo that has got the runs on the board. He has had patches of excellence mixed with horrible games. Has he turned the tide? Ryders mobility on the MCG is something that Carlton will need to address, and his ability to take contested marks is a big plus.

In my view, Essendon* relies on too much being done by too few. This is normal for a team on the rise, but in Carlton's current form if it maintains, Essendon* would have to pull something out of the hat to win.

In the end, the stats tell a bad story for Essendon*:

Contested Possessions - Even. Both teams have played strong contested football.

Disposal Efficiency - Carlton. And by a large margin. Given there's only 10% separating first from last here, the fact Carlton is almost 5% greater than Essendon* and over 100 possessions higher does not bode well for Essendon*. Furthermore, no Carlton player is below 60% efficiency. Essendon* have three. On top of that, Carlton have 5 players less than 70%. Essendon* have 14.

Hit-Outs - Essendon*. Essendon* have averaged more hit-outs per game thanks to a brilliant Ryder than the combo of Carlton. Carlton isn't helped by a particularly poor hitout statistic against Richmond in Round 1 (second worst in the league)

Clearances - Carlton are the kings of the competition in this area. This is the one area Essendon* must stop, but they are among the worst in the league in this area. Clearances win games.

Rebound 50's - Carlton. When the ball goes in to Carlton's 50 metre arc, it doesn't come back out as easily as it does with Essendon*. Furthermore there is a 53% chance of a score, compared with 51% of the Bombers. If Carlton's defense continues its strong reboudn form, Essendon* are in trouble.

On top of the above, Essendon* were absolutely spent on Saturday night, whereas Carlton looked like they could play another quarter. I'd be surprised if Essendon* have much energy after half time, and with a game 4 days later to boot.

It all points to a strong win by Carlton.

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA flower you guys are brave.

There is a genuine reason centrebet and sports agencies have the odds listed as

1. CARLTON 1.13 N/A -37.5 : 1.91
2. Essendon* 6.00 N/A +37.5 : 1.91

FFS its nearly 40 points to the line thats how much is flowing on the blues. Anyways, after Saturday I guess we know where we will stand for our top 4 aspirations after beating the bombers :screwy:

Good point...

If Carlton jump out to a decent lead early, subconsciously at least would the Essendon* players put the cue in the rack and ride it out in preparation for Anzac Day? The margin could get ugly (depending on your POV).

...it's because Patrick Ryder started on the bench, apparently.

I guess it's OK to use picks six and eight on two flankers/midfielders in Myers and Heppell. :screwy:

We might see more of this if Heppell hears Robinson's footsteps coming the other way.

We are forgetting vital information... they will be down to two rotations on the bench before half time, as a result of more soft tissue injuries due to very poor player management.
