I agree...this is the end on this topic from me.

OK now let me explain myself without sounding like a complete tosser, like you did.

We are in finals mode, and, for the first time in many years we are in top four mode. Now is not the time to be holding players hands and stroking their egos if they can't produce on the field because they are still "developing" or "getting the pace of the game". I understand that many of the changes made were forced via injury and circumstance therefore I am NOT having a rant at the MC; rather a big rant at the players that have been in the system a long time yet cannot produce the standard required to maintain this team in the top four.

Yes, I agree that Touhy, Austin, Ellard and others will have long and hopefully great careers at the Blues but the fact remains that when they are mixing it with the big boys they have to produce or make way for players that will produce. Now if you read my post carefully instead of trying to compose a smart arse relpy that gave you a little snigger, I stated that when the (injured) players mentioned were available they should be rushed into the side. I know that Hammer and Jammo won't be available for some time but others mentioned may be available this or next week. The list of players that were on their last chance; should be interpreted as "last chance to perform or get moved on for the returning players". Now I know that this assumption may have been a bit complex or abstract for you to comprehend and for that I do apologise, but I assumed that most (if not all) would understand this, and not that these players were "literally" on their last chance with the club. I hope that this clarification has soothed your somewhat hysterical demeanour.

It is a simple matter of fact that there are players that are up to it and some not, some will improve and develop into outstanding talents others have reached the pinnacle of their physical and mental capabilities and will be traded or delisted. It is a fact of life for footballers and other professional athletes. There are those that have played in the firsts this year that will not be with the team next year. Deal with it.

Apart from the snide remarks (as they say 2 wrongs don't make a right) I dig this post.
I agree and fully understand where you are coming from.

We are playing for a top 4 spot and a flag...may the best team play...and that requires the best team to be selected.
If the best players come in, some have to be "dropped" (I don't know the PC word for this)...oh yeah.."make way".
Those selected to replace injured players do have an opportunity to shine and claim a spot...just like Hammer did....and I reckon Tuohy is doing well too, and am hoping that he is better than Army in the backline (not convinced of that yet)

I don't think moshe attempted to upset you....just stirring...just guessing though.

Good post Carltn.

Houlihan did his job against Hurn. And did it well,
19 poss, tackles, 2 goal assists, 2 misses....shat on Hurn.
He was not the reason we lost the game...not even close.

WCE had the ball in their forwardline 15 minutes more than us.
The problem was in the middle and that put plenty of pressure on a very short defense.

The 3 main reasons for our improved defense were missing: Jamo, Duigan and Laidler.
That's half of our defense missing and novices replaced them: Austin, O'Keefe, Tuohy, and later Hendo.
Cox and Nic Nat beat Warnock and Kreuzer hands down.

That's already been discussed in full.

So he should... We look very shakey down back without Jamo..

Did someone tell KB that Jamo didn't play in Round 1?

When he finds out, he can remind a few around here, too.

KB's been excited about Richmond's chances against us ever since they picked up Chris Judd in the PSD.

Is there anything more fun then tuning into SEN on a Monday morning after the Blues have done a number on Richmond and listening to KB cop it from the callers?

I have to give KB credit. He is hated but has everyone in the palm of his hands, he does a great job.

I didn't know anyone listened to SEN anymore.

Sometimes it's fun listening to KB get grilled or sour St Kilda supporters whinge about everything on this earth. Yes, Finey.

Can't drop Austin after one game back after 2 years out with injury. Give him a chance to pick up the pace of the game. Otherwise drop him from the list now.

Duigan is an automatic inclusion if fit. Ellard is not an automatic inclusion and does not deserve to retain his spot, similar with Armfield.

In other words don't panic after one loss. Duigan for Jamison. Robinson for Ellard. Curnow for Armfield. The only unlucky player is O'keefe to make way for Waite.

..sure you can.. ..players that get picked for a game 'purely' due to injuries/outs forcing our hand, when otherwise they would not make it.. ..are back out of the side when the prefered/better player is ready to resume their place in the side.. ..i'm not neccessarily saying he needs to be dropped this week, just saying that in some circumstances it's certaqinly plausible to 'drop' a player after a single game.. ..has happened plenty of times before [for reasons good and bad], and will again..

Cannot be so mercenary with the mental aspect of a young player. He knows he will only be used when needed? How will the coach ever get the best out of him on that basis. If Austin is ever to become a regular senior player now is the time. Half the backline out, the new boys not yet ready, and he is finally fit. Need to give 2 or 3 consecutive games to see if he can reproduce the promise he showed a couple of years ago. Otherwise banish him.

I reckon Austin is exactly the srt of player we need to get games into - just as the pies did with Ben Reid a few years ago. Gotta do it now. we'll be pushing to hard for flag next year to be sorting out the list

I'm thinking they'll keep Austin this week.

At this stage his future is looking shaky, but good luck to him and I get the feeling Ratts will give him another chance to prove himself.

I don't think Robbo has long to live at the rate he is going, so may as well just bring him straight back in and let him go nuts while we still can !

Agreed. You're not going to make two changes to your key defensive posts, with Jamo out as well. Ratts coming out and confirming Waite not playing back almost confirms it.

If they bring in Bower, I reckon its at the expense of Tuohy or O'Keefe instead.

..you can't have a rigid set of 'rules' and then be stuck by them.. ..both options have merit.. ..Waite looks to come back in and will play forward, which may very well push Hendo back.. ..with Hendo and Thornton, what position is left for Austin..?.. ..lookit, i'm not writin' him off at all, but he was playin' with a forearm guard.. ..honestly, was he chosen because he was fit and ready and raring to go, or because we were desperate and our options were severely limited.. ..and since last week, our options have increased..

..yeah i can dig how some might wanna think to use this time to pump afl seniors experience into him for next year etc etc, but when yer playin' top 4 footy, and have every chance of finishing a season in the top 4.. ..you gun for it, cos who knows what will happen next season list wise/injuries etc etc.. ..last season krooz did a knee, the year before it was waite.. ..if we can get a list capable of havin' a real crack, we go for it pure and simple.. ..if Austin can push his way into the seniors [or any fringe/developing player] then more power to them, but 'gifting' games for development when there's better options waiting to come in isn't in my opinion the wisest choice.. ..especially when our spot in the top 4 just took a minor setback last week.. ..we wanna get back on the winning list this week..

Good point.

Tell Austin he has the next 4 weeks while Jamo is out and let him prove either way whether he belongs or not.

Let Bower get comfortable with his new running action for the Bullants unless he's needed.
