I suspect Santy is the type who, like Fraser Brown, does better after a rev up. He may be just getting him angry before the game.

If Setanta is dropped it is another mark in the 'Con' list for Ratts.

We are trying a new forward structure, you dont change it 3 rounds in

Trouble is, as I have been saying on every thread I have been posting, does anyone including the players and Ratts actually know what the gameplan is?

In The Age article Ratts talks about going down the corridor while the players keep kicking the ball out on the full. Now don't tell me these guys are so dumb they don't know the center square from the wing. So what is going wrong?

Last week I was thinking how lucky the interstate fans are after we lost to Essendon*. haveing to even talk to a single Bummer fan is torture.

But its probably worse for Blues fans in Adelaide if the crows beat us.

Come on carlton, do it for sjabc, lurker and the rest of the crew in Adelaide

There's Scum over here to Buzz. Funny how there seems to be more of them when they beat Carlton.

As long as we beat West Coast I can handle the rest....

Would think that with McLean injured and Robinson doubtful Garlett and Judd would appear to be the logical inclusions with Wiggins perhaps the third change for a marking forward. I think Warnock will hold his spot and the MC may play Waite at CHB with Jamison, Armfield, Thornton, Russell and Scotland down back.

thornton has got to go and houla also - lets pick on form and the future.
and don't even think about dropping robbo - one of the few who plays with real grunt and passion

we werent tackling like mad men, applying relentless pressure on them in the packs and forcing them to kick on our terms. We played with no ticker. No pressure, no turnovers meaning one of our effective weapons - scoring on the turnover - was taken out of play. For the 10 mins we did look like we wanted to be there we looked quite good only to score a couple of times and blow a couple of easy chances.

any gameplan or tactics Ratts had for winning the game was given no chance of succeeding (or being obvious to us) when the players show up in the sleepy state they showed up in the other night. Unless of course Ratts sat around last week and said to himself "the team looks real flat. i think i should design a gameplan around covering for guys not tackling, chasing or hitting targets.

If the players come out with a bit of ticker this week we will do a lot better.

Not sure about the comments on Henderson. His kicking was poor at times but his leading and marking was strong.

Ratts is verbally laying down the challenge this week to the playing group, surely the players will respond?

has happened before - all piss and wind - nothing will come of it.
the only way to make a statement is to take action and drop the softies

A number of teams, such as St Kilda, will occupy the corridor and force the other team to go out wide, and once that's happened will then shift over to zone that side of the ground. Hawthorn in its premiership year did that, and the Saints do it now. But I'm not at all sure you could argue that the Bombers caused us to go out wide ...

It's not enough for Ratts to tell the boys to go down the corridor if they can. That much should be apparent to the players anyway, although it's somewhat reassuring to hear him say that he isn't REQUIRING them to go around the wings. There needs to be a strategy to avoid being pushed out wide by zoning - running it through with handball or precise kicking, or going over the top. And that needs to be practised. Geelong can do it, but it requires a lot of skill and composure, and some of our kicking suggests that chipping it through the corridor isn't such a great idea.

Having said that, Santy showed in the last quarter that it's as much a state of mind than anything. When he got the ball at HB, he was happy to run up the corridor right into the 50 and goal. A few others more naturally seek the safety of the boundary line rather than just pinning the ears back and going for it.

I'm not sure that Setanta warrants being dropped. If he's going to be dropped after a bad game on Saturday, then drop half the team. They were equally culpable of not putting in. It would be Simpson, Judd and the VFL team playing if work rate is the reason.

I hope Hadley comes in, I think we play our best footy with him int he 22.

I don't see the point of Garlett coming in at the expense of Setanta. We had 42 entries for 25 shots at goal - to me that's a reasonable conversion rate to scoring shots? And if we only had 42 entries then I'd be looking a bit further up the ground for slackers or poor users.

Fixing up the delivery and increasing goal kicking practice may see a better esult than dropping our leading goalkicker after one poor game.

So my preference would be:

Out: Robinson (He needs a brain before he plays again), McLean
In: Hadley, Judd

I think Ratts' may have been giving Setanta a bake for his first quarter efforts.

Judd and Hadley are the obvious inclusions and the omissions for them are clear, but we need to bring in Garlett and I'm struggling to find a suitable 'victim'.

You could make a case for drop Waite (didn't impose himself aerially), Scotland (questionable input without the footy), Carrazzo (didn't take any risks in possession) or Houlihan (got lost in the thick of the action and let it get to him), but you can just as easily argue against such moves. I think he'll definitely make the flight over, but now I'm not so sure he'll get a run.

amazed at the lack of support for Hadley's inclusion. He was pivotal to our winning run in the second half of 09.

Interesting. We spent most of last season wishing we had Jarrod Waite in the team, and now we have him we don't want him? Crazy...

And until he broke his arm was in our top three. Was really finding some form heading into the finals. Doesn't always see eye to eye with the coach and has been critisized for laconic nature when team not in possession. With McLean missing - an absolute must if we want to preserve Judd an extra year or two.
