I mean, we've all done all-nighters at their age and i am definitely not against any player having fun but don't let it compromise your work and make sure you turn up to wherever you need to be at your workplace on time. Have a bucketful of coffee, 50 redbulls, whatever it takes, just make sure you're there and in a state to participate in their case.
I did it numerous time, straight from bar/club to clock on at work. You struggle but you get through!
Or taper off if you cant manage that. Make sacrifices if need be, especially at this time of year with finals beckoning!!! :screwy:

Yeah, OK if you're a shit kicker in an office or you run your own business, or any number of jobs. A bit different if you're an elite athlete with a team counting on you.

Or Fevola's PR hack.
Are we being wound up for Fevola to be 'grilled' by Sam Newman on his 'controversial comments'?

Yes,and how great is that.It would really have broken our hearts had it been Fev.
So brilliant to see he is a grown up now...and let's hope his errant mates grow up very soon too.
I look forward to seeing them back very soon, and a whole lot wiser for their experience. You just can't stay a kid forever..but many try.

Well done to the club for the way they have handled this matter. Very disappointed in the boys, especially Eddie Betts, he should know better.

Cloke, just stupid mate, kiss your career goodbye.

Im glad the club has taken this stance because we have had a pathetic culture for way too long. Whatever the short term pain (I still think we'll win), it will help us tremendously in the long run.

Was an interesting night Saturday night.

Was out at my friend's place having a quiet one when his brother called - was taking his break from security at the place where the boys were at.

He got into a conversation with them. Asked them why they were out so late. They told them that they were just enjoying a few quiet drinks (I've got the Fanta, as always) before heading home for the night.

I wondered with what has happened if the three of them even knew that they had to attend a recovery session. Of course they had to know, didn't they? Simply inexcusable.

Goodbye Cloke. You can go back to Collingwood now. Had you had as much application on the track as you do the bottle you could have had a better career.

Jeffrey Garlett, we'll put you down as being inexperienced, naive and stupid. Hopefully you learn from the mistakes that you have made with this and can put it behind you. You have enormous talent and with application and dedication to your club you could become somewhat of a cult hero. You have the flair in your game. Get at it young fella!

Eddie Betts, I'm ultra disappointed in you. Of the three, you're the one whose involved in the leadership group. You're counted on to be a great team-mate on and off the field, the one who should be leading by example. But no, you chose the alcohol AGAIN over the team. You should be ashamed of yourself. I hope like hell that the club trades you at the end of the season. We do not need players of your kind poisoning all of the tremendous young up and coming PROFESSIONAL talent we have on the list. You could have been so much more. Instead, you get by on your reputation, you let your world of skill go to waste. Wake up, man. Please. If not for the Carlton Football Club then for yourself.

As to all those questioning the posters on this board as to if we've gone out drinking and then gone to work. Sure, some of the regular posters here may do that, I'm straight edge and that's my choice, but those who do drink on here aren't paid insane amounts of money to keep their bodies conditioned and recovered so that they are in a position to do their job at the best of their ability. I realize this isn't US sport and players aren't paid millions of dollars but the money is significant. Pulling shit like this should be breach of contract. Hope they lose their pay for the round (if that's legal).

Agree with that. Yes, some will have hurt their career for the short term, some maybe for the long term. The club has acted, which everyone would expect. All the "what ifs" regarding more important players, are just that

That's the whole póint ... there are no more what ifs ... the standard has been set ... if its Fev or god forbid Judd or whoever the club will look a right toss if it does not act in the same vein.

The bar has been set and I am glad it did not cost us anywhere near what it could have.

Cloke = gone = you idiot

Garlett = inexperience = do not do it again son (just cannot help to think that after playing such a great game he just wanted to celebrate and it got out of hand ... will learn from his mistake).

Eddie = total bloody idiot = but required .... would leave him out of the first week of the finals ... then bring him back ... needs to truly appreciate what a huge mistake he made and that we expect way more from him. For god sake he should be taking the Yarrans and Garletts under his wing not corrupting them!

On a side note.... So Eddie Betts is stuck on 96 games? Am I right?

If he is recalled for the first week of the finals and Carlton go through to play in the GF... How many players in the history of the AFL have had their 100 game milestone come in the grand final?

I have heard from a very reliable source (this is 100% true) that Cloke has to play a certain amount of senior games this year to get a contract next season. At the moment he is one game short of fulfilling that criteria and with this indiscretion I doubt we will see him in finals. So we have seen the end of Cloke it seems.

Spot on. G-A-W-N.

Let's hope the talls stand up if we go deep into the finals, so he is not needed again.

They might go for 206 anyway, if he gets a few more games under his belt ... though it would be nice in a way to see him tucked away until next year.

Good opportunity for Sauce, if Hammer's still sore.

The stage is being set for Yarran.

What suprises me out of all of this is that the new guidelines were put in place after the Essendon* game in Round 12. It makes me think the fact that they had to address the issue means it was being violated a fair bit. I don't know what other guidelines have been put in place but you would think that arriving late to any session without a good enough reason would result in this type of penalty at the start of a season.

I'm not sure Yarran is ready.

There's no doubt he has the skills and he can slot the goal away when he gets his mits on it, but I just think he is nowhere near Betts or Garlett in terms of chasing/defensive pressure etc, and these days that is crucial.

I'm a Yarran fan, but I won't start getting excited until 2010 beyond, when hopefully he has started to come on more in terms of the aforementioned aspects of the game

Then again, all he needs to do is bag 2 goals this weekend and that could come from just a handful of touches.

Cloke is no huge loss.

Will be good to get Armfield back. He adds accountability, hardness, and a bit of carry. And he has become a safer pair of hands (and boots) the past 5-10 weeks.

Hadley is a loss. Wonder who will come in for him.

We have had some horror first quarters this year - Adel, Freo, Coll, Ess. If we can get a decent start, then we'll be a huge chance.

I've posted this in the Bullants thread - but I'm surprised Betts has been named in the VFL this week. I thought the club might have taken the opportunity to rest him before the finals....He's looked a bit sore since about half way through the season...

Hutchy backed up the point made in this thread about Cloke needing to play 10 games this season to get an automatic extension, he's played 9. No one else to blame but himself, what was he thinking! :donk:
