Is it just me or does anyone else find Ratts consistent use of the words "maybe" or "probably" annoying?

In some cases it makes me wonder if he has no confidence in what he is saying when he uses those descriptions.

A bit of a worry....

lol, yeah I think his hairstyle is a concern also

Hairstyle? He has more to worry about! What's with those ears??? They need to be pinned back!

There is nothing you can do when you are pulled out of the womb by your ears, he might aswell worry about the hair..

It a confidence issue and he is very guarded when speaking to the media in case he lets something slip or says something that the opposition can use as ammunition - he will improve /develop go back to Ross Lyon a couple of years ago and he was as wooden and cliched as pinocchio - but has improved and so will Ratts

I think overall he represents the club well - the more he does it the more he will get better at it .

Once again he is a young developing coach - he needs to develop various aspects of his coaching skills

I kinda understand with what your saying, but I think there are times to be "guarded" and then there are times to be clear and concise.

Here is an example:

Brett Ratten said:

Quote:
"Maybe it's a chance for us to just focus on what we have to do this week, the way we want to play and the way that we can actually execute our game plan the best we can."

To me he should be more positive with that and use stronger language especially when he is talking about focus and how the team needs to play.

Anyway, as you say he is developing, and I am probably just nit picking...

Lets hope the emphasis this week is on focus and the gameplan because the Swans will eat us up if the boys come out not switched on.

I don't know that the players would take any notice of what the coach says to the media.

Maybe, maybe not.

But I just hope when giving the boys instruction he isn't using the same descriptions.....

Anyway, as I said - I am probably nit picking.

Lets just spank those Swan gumbies this weekend.

Some interesting stats sent to me from where, I have no idea.....

Carlton

Last week Carlton took just 8 Marks Inside 50m compared to the Tigers 14 yet still won by 20 points

Carlton had a Disposals Efficiency of just 68% - well down on the competition average of 74%

Andrew Carrazzo has averaged 28 Disposals over the last 4 weeks of the season

Brendan Fevola kicked a career-best 9 goals last week against Richmond. He previously had reached 8 goals in a match on 8 previous occasions

The Blues have won their last 2 matches of the season. They have not won 3 matches in a row since Rounds 11-13 of 2004

Bryce Gibbs has averaged 27 Disposals over his 4 matches at Etihad Stadium this season

Marc Murphy leads the club for Loose Ball Gets this season, with 54, ranked 6th in the league

Over his last 8 matches against the Swans, Chris Judd has averaged 26 Disposals and kicked a total of 11 Goals

Carlton have won 3 of their 4 matches at Etihad Stadium this year by an average margin of 34 pts

Carlton have not defeated the Swans since 2000

Sydney Swans

Last week the Swans lost all 4 quarters against Essendon*. It is the first time that Sydney have had this happen to them since Round 16, 2002 v Brisbane at the Gabba

Last weeks loss to the Bombers was their first loss at the SCG this season

Sydney have now lost 5 of their last 6 matches of the season

Ryan O’Keefe has had 25 Disposals or more in every match since Round 5

The Swans have lost their last 10 matches Interstate by an average margin of 29 points

Jesse White has kicked 19 Goals in the last 2 matches for the Sydney Swans reserves, including a bag of 12 Goals last week

Jarrad McVeigh has averaged 18 Disposals and 3 Goals per game in his last 3 matches against Carlton

Sydney have a 3-0 record over Carlton at Etihad Stadium

The Swans have won just 1 of their last 7 matches at Etihad Stadium since 2006 – their only victory over that time was against Carlton last season

Sydney have won their last 12 matches against Carlton by an average margin of 37 points

DUC

There is some very sobering stats in that lot. Thankfully Ratts made a statement about focusing on what the Blues need to do this week, rather than dwell on the histrionics of our record against bogey teams like Sydney.

Lets hope that change of thinking is evident in this weeks match.

The Blues really need to be positive and take the game on and not worry so much about what the other team is doing or what they might do. I think there has been some evidence of that in some games this season and it just creates confusion in the players mindset.

So is that another blunder made by our coach 'the developer of kids into men'. Lets see if he leaves Stevens and Scottland out for another week for other reasons and hope he doesn't get the selections wrong for this week so for what it's worth my ins for the week are

In: O'Hailpin
Out: Fisher

'snip'

My ins would be O Hailpin, Stevens and Scotland
Outs Fisher Bentley and Anderson
Surely we have to get fair dinkum now, Ratts has made his point with demanding more from his senior players, it is now time to field our best 22 and full steam ahead towards the finals. There is no way Bentley should be selected in this side it is laughable to even consider playing him again.
Over the previous two weeks we have beaten a pitiful Fremantle and Richmond, so lets not get carried away, we would not have been in the contest if we had played a decent side carrying all the average footballers that Ratten has been selecting.
Does anyone know if Hampson will be fit to play?

Line up should be:
B. JOSEPH JAMISON HARTLETT
HB. SCOTLAND THORNTON JOHNSON
C. GIBBS MURPHY SIMPSON
HF. HOULIHAN O HAILPIN RUSSELL
F. GARTLETT FEVOLA BETTS
FOLL. KRUEZER GRIGG JUDD
INT STEVENS HAMPSON CARRAZZO ARMFIELD

Not a bad lineup there js, but i was under the impression bower was ready to go this week?

I suppose we'll know in 4 hours when the teams are released on superfooty.
who would u omit from the side if bower was in?

Molly1 on BF has Armfield, Fisher and Jefferey out for Yarran, Scotland and Bower/Austin.

Bower and Jamo to undertake fitness tests apparently, Jamo had his appendix out?

Good changes, except I think 1 more change is imperative, no rewards for guessing who.

Definitely bring Scotland back in, has a good record against the Swans. The most important possession in this game is whoever blocks for Judd. They stop Judd at the stoppages and it'll go a long way to winning the game for them. I know people say that for most games and generally I don't believe it but against Sydney aka the kings of stoppages it'll be very important.
