Need more forwards.
Fisher & Houlihan left upforward expect them to kick 2 or 3 each.
Must have a zone against Essendon* and really choke them.

Winner could grab top-four berth: Ratten

Quote:
Ratten nominated Essendon* small forward Alwyn Davey as the most likely target for tagger Aaron Joseph who celebrated his breakout season with a Rising Star nomination this week.

Davey isn't that dangerous IMO, Armfield could cover him.

IMO the idea of AJ would be to shutdown a damaging opponent who kills us every time we play them. Lovett is the go to man to run and breaks the lines, shutdown Lovett first and foremost, then limit Watson's impact around the clearances.

The club's membership slogan 'they know we're coming' was a big talking point leading into the round-three match and, while Ratten is right behind the catchphrase, he admitted he was taking a slightly different approach with his players at this point of the season.

"A couple of weeks ago we thought it was time to probably pull back," he said.

"Everyone knows our slogan so from a marketing and membership point of view I think it's been a great tactic for us.

The first Carlton player that holds the ball up as a sign of what is to come should leave the playing area and sit on the pine.

This is a no let up game.

In the last game against ths team Round 3, it was when we stopped running that they started!.

It is a matter of process:

Keep on running all day,
be the first and the last to score in every quarter,
don't them get their hands on the ball without a fight,
stop their run through the ground,
zone the mid field and
force them to go wide,
keep it in our forward line and
the outcome is that they cannot win.

As much as we all hate the holding the ball up, do we have any stats on the number of goals kicked against us and the number of goals we have kicked in this period?

Essendon* were the team earlier this year who beat us at the stoppages so dominantly that a few media outlets dubbed us 'soft' and granted, on the night Watson etc made us look not far away from 'soft'. It was also when i grew doubts over Cameron cloke, and his worth to the side so i'm excited at the prospect of Hampson getting his go against Ryder. Hammer, along with Bower is the success story of the club this year IMO and this could be his (and kreuzer's) time to shine.

I still dont rate Essendon* as a football team, however they need to be taken seriously this week. If we drop this game then all the credibility we gained back after falling just short of the saints will be questioned again.

They started the year running hard and playing a simplified attacking brand of football, and at the time i knew it couldnt last all year, not only from a fitness point of view, but also other teams have somewhat figured them out.

As for the team, i was one of the people bemused at Fisher playing in the magoos last round. I may have been a critic of his in years past, however against West coast and Brisbane in the 2weeks prior i dont feel he made many mistakes to warrant being dropped.

The other options are Robinson and Wiggins. Personally i'd like to see both Fisher and Robinson play this week. Whether its Garlett or Bannister who have to make way (both of who didnt disgrace last week) i was extremely impressed with 'fringe players' Austin and Browne last week against the saints, i'd actually have had Browne in our best 3 or 4. Also, anyone in the cheersquad knows my thoughts on Ryan Houlihan, anyone with skills like his ought to never have to play VFL again so those 3 would be stiff to get dropped IMO.

However, Thornton is a walkup start if fit. . so maybe Austin will be forced out by no wrongdoing of his own.

Also dont forget we've had an extra 7days rest, and any nagging injuries Fev, Lord Judd, Scotland, and Stevens may be carrying have been given more time to heal.

Huge game. . . What better way to prove our true worth as a team than by demolishing them by 9goals.

Carrots and Jamison are huge ins for us since that game. Carrots can go to Watson and Jamison can shut down Lloyd. Game over.

Matthew Knights is doing his own Fab Four style article on the eve of the game.

Plenty of praise for Paddy Ryder, Matthew Kreuzer
Quote:
Ryder, 21, whose combination of height and extreme athleticism allows him to play anywhere, has previously been predominantly used as a key defender.

If Ryder has been dominant as a key defender, then Bower is Matty Scarlett...

Was wondering what warranted Austin being dropped, but to be fair Bryce Gibbs clone's form in the Bullants has been solid for weeks now and he deserves his chance.
