Done dusted lets move on to Premiership 17.

Apart from the[Patrick Smith] writing a few snide comments about Richard Pratt having to hand back his membership to make sure he has cut all ties with the Carlton Football Club. as if you need a plastic card to validate that you have NAVY BLUE BLOOD running through your veins  - Pratt will be there for ever more whether as titular President or spiritual leader it doesnt matter.

Carlton is going upwards and we are all appreciative of that.

What will happen if Pratt is not found guilty? Patrick Smith and Co better watch what they say in the coming days I would think.

I hope [Patrick Smith] self gratification gets the better of him, i feel he won't be able to help himself.

Would love for Dick to get off and siphen every last bit of money this slimebag has so he lives a retirement in squaller. And bitterness

I'm curious about whether there would be so much moral grandstanding from the 'footy public' if it were a Pres of any other club bar ours.

Dont mind if it is Delutis or whoever provided that steps are being put in place and we have the appropriate planning for succession rather than it being ad hoc like it was done in the past- same with the CEO we need to be looking for the next one for the longer term
It wouldnt surprise me if Demetriou left Swann may be the next CEO of the AFL - Anderson wouldnt be in the frame but Gale Mcloughlin and Swann will be
There are numerous people with expertise who would be good other than Delutis who could be board members - Anthony Pratt Tom Elliott Daniel Grollo as well as the other 2 I mentioned

Swann has a contract for the next couple of years...

Of course there would be, especially if it was one of the "big four". And we'd probably be up there leading the charge as well.

This is not just a Carlton issue. Never has been, and that's why it has forced Pratt's hand at this time.

I don't think so, from where I am sitting it appears that Carlton always seems to be a media target for bashing.

No biggie though, we ignore it and do our bashing on the field instead!

Yeah, buit only because of the shit we've had to put up with, usually at the hands of the rest of the 'big four' and their underlings.

yes contract for this year and next -but not sure it couldnt be rescinded/terminated if the AFL job came up and in any case need to have feelers out for next one in case -just prudent business management -just like Dick poached Swann -someone else might too

I am actually relieved in many ways that this has come to ahead.

As many have stated, his key work is largely done and that was providing the impetus for change and getting the best people in. That has been achieved.

Let him concern himself with his health and cases.

Let's just make sure we pump the Bombers!!!!

It really is sad for Richard given his exemplary past and long list of entrepreneurial and philanthropic achievements that he has been caught up in this whole saga. I’m sure the record shows that Amcor made the approach to Visy as they were concerned of further erosion to their minority share of the cardboard market and wanted to protect their position. Really, Visy and Richard had less to gain out of this collusion then Amcor, however, a planned 20% price surge over a short number of years would certainly have been a strong temptation to lift company performance.

With the benefit of hindsight, it was an extremely poor decision on his part and one that he had less to profit from. History will now show that he was part of the group engaging in collusion and because the financial gains have probably been outweighed by the permanent damage he has suffered to his reputation and the legacy he leaves, it has left a stain that will never leave

I don't want to get caught up on whether he is guilty or innocent, because I have no idea of the case against him.

But I do want to thank Richard Pratt for doing everything in his power to return the Carlton football Club to a position of strength. Richard gave me cause to believe again from the moment he walked in the door. His appointment of Swann was a masterstroke. Along the way there has been the securing of Hyundai as a major sponsor, and the recruitment of our beloved captain. There have also been the magnificent wins so far this year, and the development of this young core of kids who will take us to our next flag.

For all of that... that you Richard Pratt, and best of luck as you fight these charges. The thoughts of many in the Carlton family are with you.

Demetriou said the incident had not cast a shadow over the league.

“No, I don’t think that [it’s brought the AFL into disrepute]. Mr Pratt has got issues he will have to deal with and they are obviously having an effect on him in a personal nature, but the AFL will continue to operate. The AFL respects the decision Mr Pratt has made in this instance.”

The AFL chief also said he would not stand in the way of Pratt returning to his role at Carlton.

“It’s not for me to comment on. He has stood aside and if he is successful in dealing with this matter and is cleared, then he has every right to come back as the Carlton president.”

He has stepped aside hasn't he not resigned? SO if charges aren't upheld will he be back as president? And is he still on the board?

Ideal replacements would be Fahour but if not him Andy Penn amd no doubt there are others

Whilst I think Swann is doing a terrific job we should also be ensuring that the club at the end of the year turn its mind to a successor for him as well in the longer term

Youll find Pratt is a huge fan off Delutis...with people like Fried to stay/.. and the inclsiuon pof alot of new blood...

Without Pratt there the board is too big .... a new president will need a cull....!!!

Now id hate to see people from within the board exercising ambition against what Dick wants....

What are you insinuating? I hate people who just say there needs to be a cull. I personally don't see a problem wiht a large board given these members VOLUNTEER their time. If you think there needs to be a cull say who you think should be culled and why.

Yes, he's stood aside, not resigned and will be back as president if he beats the charges.

I doubt Richard will return as President.

He may well return to the board but I think he and others will now be looking for a new leader.

Heard on radio last year, Pratt said he wanted to do a 2 year tenure.

So maybe he was finishing after this season anyway.

Bad way to go out though.
