In the meantime; I'll put up this pic of the dear old pressbox at PP.

Remember the TV Cameras to the left in the scaffolding?

This is the front page report of Jezza's 100th goal printed by the Evening paper of that day "The Herald"....Saturday August 29....1970.

APOLOGIES for the disjointed copy....it was a very difficult thing to line up in a scanner situation; and I failed unfortunately.

Notice the paper price?..........4 cents!

On July 2- 1988; we played Collingwood at the MCG.

SOS played at CHB that day,and saved his best ever grab for the old foe.

That one was a pearler. Came out of nowhere and made an otherwise ordinary day special.

Another report from the "Sunday Observer" this time on our 1970 GF Win.

There were two good Victorian Sunday Papers in those days;
this one which was an Independent Newspaper,
and "The Sunday Press" which was put out by "The Age"
in partnership with "The Sun".

I've had to reduce the front page right down; but it's not too bad.

This is a short summation of the enormous input (off field) the players had.....and then translated to the ultimate onfield success in 1995.

Interesting too that the highly decorated and successful Coach David Parkin attributed a lot of the positive mindset of the players
to the newly appointed Club Psychologist, Anthony Stewart.

I just wonder what A younger Parko and his fertile mind would achieve with our current list?.....interesting to contemplate?

Just putting up this pic tonight as I've got a lot to put up
tomorrow hopefully.....this is a pic from the dressing rooms
after the 95 Premiership Win with a young Kouta and his Dad
and John Elliott.

They were successful times.....he says wistfully....

I'm not saying there's not better pics or better marks; but these are pretty good...
...we've already covered Jezza's famous 1970 mark....enjoy!

The first one is from Piggy Harmes who dominated this game..
..the 1981 Grand Final.

Image

This next one is from the Buzz who seemed to relish taking speccies against Geelong.

Image

Yet another spectacular mark by Jezza.....I'm so lucky to have seen every one of them..
..here he is in the 1972 Grand Final with Gags watching.

Image

Here's Champion Full Back Geoff Southby outmarking Neil Balme
over Paul Hurst in the 1972 Second Semi Final Replay.
Image

Here's the Swan....David McKay; marking over Neil Balme
and Royce Hart (underneath); and Rex Hunt (front) and
of course Bruce Doull, in the 1972 Grand Final.
Image

Here is a deadset screamer from Kouta at the height of
his incredible powers over Dean Rice against
Essendon* (who else?) in 1998.
Image

Finally; a repeat of the big SOS grab of 1988.

Thanks mate....I've got some great stuff to put up

before the Season; especially for some of the posters

who want to know what went on and how it all started

when we became a powerhouse.

Frustration set in with Billy Brownless on the half time siren in the 1995 Grand Final, as Ang had just kept the ball rolling over the boundary line to keep it safe.

Brownless laid a ferocious tackle on Ang after the siren had gone; starting a good dustup.

I love the look in Dog Brown's eyes in the bottom photo. Gees I wish we had a modern day version of him - he always had the shits :-D

Yep....Browny played the game as he does in business....ruthlessly!

Everytime I watch that game too; I think how much physical clout the Duke gave to that side; you'll see him in the main pic wrestling with....is it Riccardi?

This is a special report for the Melbourne "Sun" newspaper written by award winning journalist John Sorell (a Carlton supporter).

John Sorell soon went on to GTV9, and became News Director for the 9 Network; obtaining among others; the rights to "60 Minutes" in Australia.

This report was printed on Monday September 28-1970; following our immortal Grand Final win on the Saturday.

We are now the complete polar opposite of the club described in that article

Thanks again for a nice trip down memory lane - the past seems so much nicer when the present is oh so painful.

Yeah, thanks mate.....I will be putting up another one soon by Mike Sheahan written in the Sun
on the morning of our played at Night Preliminary Final in 1995;
in which he talks about how professional Carlton (is) .....(was)
with a staff of over 134.....including statisticians that
even record for Parkin how many times Harry Madden smiles during a game!

I sometimes wonder how Parko would handle the situation/team today??

Warby

As you know there have been quite a few of these up and downs over
the years.
Footy clubs have people with big egos, and need someone to stand tall, and hold them together, and knock a few heads together.

That was interesting to see that Laurie kerr was the mastermind.
He was a journalist.
We have had some very good and powerful people in our time.
And a few baddies.

It will change around again.
The main thing is to get people who are interested in Carlton as a team and club. Not easy to get.
