Fascinating stats there.

Makes a mockery of 'observations' the boundary line oriented game plan doesn't work in modern footy, granted it is just 1 game.

In saying that, did Mick ask them to kick shorter not longer? Did he ask them to play on more than normal?

If so then these are arguably adjustments to the game plan.

But as I have always said, Mick did show at Coll he was an old dog that was prepared to learn new tricks, so I think credit needs to be given there and some faith too.

He has one of the healthier egos in the coaching fraternity, no doubt about that, but he's not so stubbornly stupid to have that ego stop him from realising changes are required. If they are required that is.

The most impressive thing about Mick this year has been his calmness under pressure. This is one benefit of having a highly experienced coach. He said all along a lot of our players, esp the older ones were coming back from injury interrupted pre-seasons, and the absence of fitness resulted in losses and this culminated in a loss of confidence. He was very calm during this period, and out-lasted the various nellies (me included).

Of course though, it is just 1 game.

But, even when we were moving the ball beautifully and scoring almost at will last week, it was still clear as day how undermanned we are at KPP - with Waite/Hendo fwd, and Jamo out, we had the bare essentials of White and Rowe down back, hardly inspiring, and certainly not IMO good enough to be a top four side.

..history shows that yes he does want his teams to kick short, but it takes work rate for there to be that option.. ..we did increase the amount that we played on but we already were the comp. leaders in the aspect..

So, we must be playing the same because Robbo said so.

Play on through the corridor from defensive 50, up more than 20% from the previous week.
We were taking 50% more contested marks per game last year so we're not kicking to contests as much.
Our uncontested possessions ratio is up from last year. So we're retaining the ball without putting it in contested situations as much.
Our handball to kick ratio has increased from last year and running bounces have gone from 14.8 per game to 17.2 (number 1 in the AFL) so we're distributing the ball to our runners and run and carrying it more.
All of that equals kicking to contests less and retaining possession more using run, carry and quick ball movement.
That's exactly what most posters have wanted to see I would have thought. :?

Robbo wouldn't know his head from his arse.

Coaches rave about 'versatility'.

While versatility has its advantages, I think it can be overdone with young players.

I'd like to see more continuity, especially with KP players, which lets them build each week with experience, knowledge and improvement in their particular role.

Let's face it, we're not a top 6 side, so I'd like to see our players improve and master a role before being thrown into another role requiring a different process.

..look at his well coached teams of the past.. ..look at how we moved the ball vs port in the first quarter.. ..the media spun version of mm game plan is a caricature but it isn't too long ago that he had the pies in two grand finals, so not too long ago that we can't remember their fast run and carry short passing game.. ..the long bomb is a bad Carlton habit, it is not a mm gameplan.. ..have always said, mm game plan is big effort, press and pressure ball carrier, use safe options, go inside if clear option and you can execute otherwise go wide but always work to retain possession.. ..kick long to an advantageous contest, don't kick long blindly though.. ..he has been around long enough that it is easy to see how he wants his teams to play, but if you play his style slow and hesitant and without the hard running, it looks terrible and falls apart, like any game plan does..

History doesnt show us any of that.
History shows that Carlton were 17th for long kicks in Rattens final year and they were second for short kicks.
History also shows that Collingwood were 6th for long kicks, 12th for short kicks and 2nd in the AFL for metres per disposal in Malthouses final year.

In fact, in Malthouses first pre-season at Carlton, (NAB Cup) we went from 17th in the AFL for long kicks to first and from 2nd for short kicks to 18th. :?
Suggesting it is a Carlton bad habit looks totally incorrect to me.
Its obviously a Malthouse directive.

..I don't agree, blues used to rack up plenty of sort kicks cos for years we chip chipped back and sideways, we used to be the worst in negative meters with all our backwards passing.. ....the way we played last year was a mix cos we were trying to adapt and custom fit a game plan to a new list.. ..I think the game plan this season is bedded in to most now, but the work ethic required we couldn't give.. ..when it all clicks it looks nothing like what we dished up recently.. ..how we played vs doggies is close, but still too open, first quarter vs port is where we are aiming..

MM was clearly out coached by Simpson today who just entered the senior coaching caper.

One of the most disgraceful coaching exhibition I have seen from a senior carlton coach in my time of following the blues since 1970

Have they beaten anyone this season yet?

I wonder if the 81 points was enough to give them a win?

I did.

And I'd also like to hear you expand on your view.
