Why can't we keep Gibbs go and get 7 or 8 mids in trading and the draft and then pick up some proven forwards once we show we can get the ball forward.

Yeah that worked well for us a few years back. We had Judd, Murphy and Gibbs and a pretty dominant midfield. It helped us make the finals, but we could never seriously compete because we had no quality talls.

Talls take longer to develop than midfielders. If you start with midfielders and then try and find talls, you either end up picking Watson, McCarthy and Luke Mitchell in desperation. Or even if you find some decent talls, when you're finishing mid-table and you no longer have access to elite talent, it still takes them far longer to develop. And by the time they're ready to dominate, your midfield is aging.

Fevola would still be playing if his off field issues hadn't dominated his life and ruined his career.
He demanded the football like Reiwoldt, franklin and others before.
We seriously need another gun forward to straighten us up. One that knows how to find space and get the footy.

Gun forwards that demand the ball make a team predictable. Much prefer the Adelaide forward line with 3-4 players capable of kicking a bag.

Before Gibbs departure.....we needed the trade period to capture Two mids with another two from the draft

2???

Try 5 as a start...

We also need a KP forward or 2 and a couple of KP back men to release Plowman to 3rd tall/HBF.

When you've got a chance to get good tall talent, get it as otherwise you end up with mediocre KP players.

Hence why Marchbank et al.

We won't fix our problems in 1 or even 2 trade periods.

Totally agreed.

I'm sure james alludes to this year with the first 2 rounds' draft picks.

Thomas Kerridge Wright Sumner Graham Lamb Everitt, followed by Simpson and Curnow....probably Buckley all require considered upgrades .... some could be the depth Tuohy :sly: Tutt and Viojo never were or will be.

Casboult Rowe Kreuzer even Jaksch need replacing and hope MacKay makes it.

We have to get it right too. Other than that we are building around a dozen or so.

Our list requires a combo of trades, draft and FAs...and more than a couple of mids....a year

Sydney went OK this year.
Wasn't Franklin's fault he was playng injured at the end.

We should trade with GC.
At present they have, pick 4, 8, 22 and 24.
Will end up with picks 6 (Prestia) and pick 10 (O'meara).
That gives them picks 4, 6, 8, 10, 22 and 24.
If we offer them pick 5, 25 and our first pick next year for picks 4, 8 and 10.
CG will have picks 5, 6, 22, 24 and 25 and our first pick next year.
We get, picks 4, 8, 10, 13 (Gibbs).
Pick 13 for Marchbank, Pickett and Stewart.
Pick 58 for Horvat.
Picks 4, 8 and 10 straight to the draft for kids..
Have to give a little to get a little, can trade next year to get back into the first round.
Just a thought as I sit in my hotel drinking..

5, 25 and first next year for 4,8,10......mmmm....great position for us.

We could still have a first round next year if the Gibbs deal dealivers 13, 1st round next year and player

AFAIK, nobody has 8 and 10.

Does GCS have 8?
Hawks have 10.

The O'Meara pick...

If we hand over 10 or even 13 for those GWS players we have learned nothing, it would be a disgrace.
