He needs more to be depressed about.
No its depressing enough seeing what Malthouse has done to this team
Just think we were at 11.00 o'clock
I'm not sure why Mick said we were near 11 o'clock (pressure from the "Sticks" brigade perhaps?) but I suspect he knew not long after arriving that we were nowhere near it, and it took him some time to convince the powerbrokers at the club that drastic change was needed. Regardless of whether or not he coaches beyond 2015, in my view he will have left our list in a much better place than it was by sorting out the pro's from the pretenders, getting the most out of the pro's we do have, and moving on guys that were never going to be part of our next premiership team (whether that be due to age, skill level, attitude....). This has been needed for years, and IMO it's been (mostly) done. I'm bullish about next season and how we may springboard from it.
Define Not long
He was in the job 12 months when he made the 11 o'clock statement.
When he first arrived it was no limits remember
Its a good read Sydney, and you stick phat with your POV, but that's all in the past. Its done.
None of those players including rookies were going to take us to the next finals series. Too old, too slow, to stupid, or something like that.
They had to be cleaned out. Theres another half dozen to clean out andother 3-4 quality trades PLUS our good draft selections.
I think the bar is being raised from the bottom up. The bottom 6 are gone...as long as we dont have 7-10 injuries, but that will once again improve by the time MM has completed his tenure. Carlton already in a better place than the one in the Prelim with Ratten as coach. We nearly made it. Made what? The prelim. He didnt win a prelim. The good thing from Rattens era, which I enjoyed mind you, was the players who remain. They're gooduns.
Gibbs is becoming elite, and Kreuzer and Murphy with him may rip up the comp.
It is their time. Add Walker and Simmo as the elder statesmen, a role Scotland and to a lesser extent, Waite played.
It's the rest of the list we need to improve out of site, and I cant criticise what MM's done in the last 2 drafts. Sure I wish he made changes in his 1st year because we needed to, but he was like the rest of us, believing we were knocking on the door as a top 4 side. Its easy to crticise MM but Im sure the failure of high draft picks over the last 10 years are not his doing.
No doubt in my mind I consider Malthouse style with our list improvement has been done with style and grace. Tough decisions. But he's not the only one who makes the final decision on the cut and the resruitment. There's still the rest of the old Carlton blokes who may barrack for the team too much who make decisions too.
Yes, there's the sour grapes from Brock to Waite which aint good and his sour relationship with a flower writer. Football. That's what I care about.
He got pulled up earlier in the year by Maclure and possibly others to pull his head in when representing Carlton Football Club. MM knows we are not Collingwood, Footscray, West Coast where he could do anything.
I like the way its going with Malthouse at Carlton. I got ahead of myself a few years ago.
The list was deceptively full of potential back them.
