Hey Crusader or anyone else
I'm looking the make up of the List numbers.
We currently have 46 players including 2 LTI extras (Derksen for Motlop; Riley for Carroll)
39 Listed (includes the 2 extras)
5 Rookies (Lord, Carroll, Evans, Young, Charleson)
2 Internationals ( Monohan, Duffy)
46 players on our website List
AFL allows can 44-48 players on the list
I thought it was a split of 38 primary and 6 rookies = 44.
What other variations are there?
Which Rookies do we have promote if we want to retain them in 2027?
The Internationals are confusing me.
If we discard them that leaves us with 44 players ie keep the LTI replacements.
I know there's a couple months of footy left, maybe more if we are good enough, but...
Duffy and Monohan do my head in.
Monohan has some serious pace but...jury is out after 2 years
Duffy is a huge athletic specimen but......jury is out after 1 year
Who thinks we keep the Internationals or get new ones in?
Primary list is a minimum of 36, maximum 38. Rookie deals make up the difference to 44.
Supplemental players, SSP or MSD, are on rookie deals.
Rookie deals are year-to-year, up to three years. But, that can be extended out to four & five years if players have fewer than the allowed number of games against their name. I can’t remember the limits off the top of my head, but Skull had to be promoted.
I’m not sure what the rules are with international players. I know that it’s not a cheap exercise to recruit them. Whether that’s an allocation of Footy Dept spend (therefore soft cap), or some other bucket of cash, is what I’m unsure of.
I don't know why AFL site suggests 44-48 other than nepo baby GCS are allowed to have 48
44 Players includes all Cat A. But can't find any info to suggest the Cat B is counted in the 44, but I assume it is. (the bonus of the Cat B is we can find them outside the draft)
Here's the catch.
Quote:
Clubs can now list one Irish player as a Category B rookie but for each additional Irish player rookie listed, that player will be deemed to be a Category A rookie and the club will forfeit its last selection in the Rookie Draft for each additional player listed.
https://www.afl.com.au/about-afl/rookie-playersMonohan must be our Cat B, and Duffy must be included as a Cat A. They are not Tuohy. They are not even Aisake. Pity Byrne and Sheehan got injured. Pace to burn. I say move them on and find one beauty we can develop. It is a free hit. We are looking for a freak profile to give us an advantage over the opposition, who is a good chance of developing.
I'm glad the AFL is getting rid of the rookies, and adjust the salary cap accordingly.
We have 46 players. I think we delist Monohan and Duffy making our list 44 players in this last uncompromised Draft with 18 teams also canvassing the State leagues. Start the delisting from there (age next year):
Fogarty (27), Saad (32), Elijah (24), Boyd (28), F.Young (25), Williams (32), Gov (32) = 7 Delisted (plus Monohan and Duffy) for 4x Draftees (incl Walker) , 3x Trade in/FA ... if we can find a replacement for Lewis Young then him or Derksen. I'd keep Haynes if he is still playing well come years end, as depth to teach the kids in VFL.
