Also says Loyd won't be at club at end of 2025.
Fitness program has been reviewed and expect significant changes to weights room and core strength work.

Huge call/decision, but as always, who knows??????????

It'll be like the good old days if we have a top 3 pick

expect top 4, just as 80% of TC did in 2024? :donk:

hope for the best, plan for the worst is a good axiom in this context.

having said that happy for Nic Austin to go as high in this draft as we possibly can. probably trading 12 & 14 to get 3 is a bridge to far for me unless there's a gun midfielder we can build a team around . surely a pick 3 midfielder in this draft would will mean releasing one of the current first pick mid-fielders within a year or two for salary capacity and b/c whoever gets dropped as first pick to allow pick 3 in would request a trade.

Hewitt has improved noticeably in 2024 (his John Nicholas Medal votes in 2024 confirms what we saw with our own eyes) playing a sort of Cripps Junior run with role instead of his old run-with opposition gun mid in the past. to get a single top 3 draftee instead of 2 or 3 from the top 15-20 draftees to fit our many needs ball movement needs.
Walsh was obviously a captain in the making until the back injury issues and surgeries, time will tell I guess. Cerra under-performed thanks to injuries and a weak preparation. But none of them will be up for playing VFL, even part time. they'd walk for sure. Even Kennedy is grumpy as in/out/bench/mr-fix-it-roles, understandably.

Yes , Henderson is more than worthy of being on an AFL list . Very slight build though which may detract from his chances . I love the toughness and hardness of Dom Brew . As Brownie say's he can't ever remember anyone breaking a Dom Brew tackle . A little known fact about Brew is his high performance in martial arts . He has had a couple of cage fights would you believe . I would get Brew to CFC as a tackling coach if nothing else . He's a beast .

Great description.

Reminds me of that storm player...a bit....Papenhuysen...wiry, tough, quick.....remember how you'd look at Andy McKay, all 6 foot of him. You knew it didnt matter the size before him, he'd win ity, or spoil it, then run the ball where he wanted it to go...same same.

honestly can't remember McKay losing a marking contest one on one. would love to see his stats if they recorded those things back then.

Maybe some steak knives from Brisbane in the Deven Robertson deal? Pick 26 is a bit much for him, but one of those picks in the 40s coming back would net the Lions a 400-500 point gain.

12 & 14 (15 & 17) might be a tad precarious, but it’s still a STRONG position to be in. Draper, Travaglia, Tauru, Trainor, Hynes, Lindsay, etc…

I don’t think we’ll need the extra points, and I’d be a bit of a nervous Nellie trading up a bracket… BUT, I’d be sporting a shit-eating grin all summer if we can land someone like Allan or Smillie.

I dont know about this. So get a top pick - 3. Then the campos. So Essentially we have given two 1sts, a 2nd for that one top draftee. Better we choose the right person then.

I would rather take the two 1st rounders to get the 2 players. And the campo twins. Then some DFA.

We'll still get the DFA opportunity

Agree with you.
But what would we know? I just hope the club knows what it is doing.

I'd only consider a trade like this if the Eagles were to throw in a player which addresses a weakness of ours - which would be unlikely

Sounding like the trade might be happening. Like his cousin hopefully he gives us something year 1 if we nail him.

If there are only draft pick exchanges involved then it would make sense to do this trade on draft night - once we are sure that the player we want (O'Sullivan?) is still available.

I thought I read WC needs our pick for Baker

Look it might blow up in our face but I'm predicting a better than average assessment of carlton trade week. Hawks blew up trade week? Yeah, nah

Plan for the worst? You want our list management team to plan for finishing 18th every year?
That's not a good axiom. It's a losers mentality. I expect our football department to have a perfect grasp of where we're at demographically and competitively. Our problem this year wasn't list composition. It was player management. Structurally we have one of the best lists in the AFL. We proved over the prolonged period that when we have a fit list, our team can be the best turnover and highest scoring team in the AFL. They can also be the best contested football team in the league.
Keeping players fit and on the park is our issue.

So I expect our football department to manage our list as contenders. Draft for success over the next 5 years with an eye to the future. We SHOULD expect to finish top 4. With no apologies.
The days of expecting to finish bottom are thankfully well gone IMHO.

Bulldogs struggling with 17 for Smith

Wonder if 12 tempts them?

Smith to cats
SDK to blues

Who would know…. I’d be happy with SDK and pick 14 in the draft

I agree BV

One thing I'd like us to attach on to what you said, is I'd like to see us give young players (hell, even first years), 2-3 games as a matter of course

I have no stats to base this on but it always seems like Geelong do that.

So instead of Binns Lord Moir coming in for West coast in Perth, maybe they play against Gold Coast at marvel earlier in the year etc.

We drafted Lord after the gold coast game and Moir had barely got a touch in the VFL at that stage of the season
