Is it worth bundling 12+14 for something down the order? 6+22?

Take 12 and 14 to the draft. We need some young energy in the team to go to the next level IMO. Plus we’ll fall off a cliff in a few years if we don’t.

Use the cap space to sign TDK and whoever else is coming out of contract. If we have space left use it to try and nab a free agent that we don’t have to trade for

According to Austin there are 5 standouts in the draft and you can 'throw a blanket' over the next 15. As it stands pick #14 will likely drop to #17 after bids on Ashcroft, Lombard and Kakko so I doubt we’d want to drop any further.

Trading IN to a strong draft seems kinda un-Carlton like..still time for a stupid move I guess

I would suggest Houston is off the table. Collingwood, Port and GC will get the deal done to get Noble, Houston, Lukocious and the other one to the clubs of their choice. It will happen and therefore my feeling is we will take 12 and 14 to the draft. But hey who here predicted we would get pick 14 from Hawthorn? Not me! But I'm happy with the trade. It shows that Austin and Co. aren't asleep at the wheel as some on here suggest.

I'd have a crack at pick 12 and Owies for Barrass now that Hawthorn seemed to have dropped plans to get him. Barrass suits our needs alot more than Houston.

for a 29 year old?
Many are happy to spend plenty for a 28yo. sometimes, if you want to fill a hole to win a flag, when in a window, you pay that for him even if it's overs. The other first pick is in a strong draft.

If it works out, it will be Wright's win. If it fails, Austin will get the blame.

Gut feel says this will will be more like the year we traded for McKay and Curnow picks after our first pick.

Funny to read that Hawthorn pulled the surprise of trade week, rather than Carlton and Hawthorn.

Hok trade.

I get the trade with Hawks makes sense.
Can't quite get my head around the pick swap with Lions

Jay Clark saying we’re after west coasts pick 3. Would be huge to move that high up the board but I can’t see them doing it

As it stands, our list composition is either:

Primary 36, Category A 6, Category B 2… or,
Primary 35, Category A 7, Category B 2

The variance being whether Lucas attracts a bid, or we prelist him before the rookie draft.

Adding two first round picks would put us at either the maximum 38, or 37 players on the primary list.

Hence, the second round pick can be moved as it was going to be used for Ben regardless. Expect to hear his name closer to pick 50 than 30.

If we use both 12 & 14 (likely 15 & 18 when said & done), we’ll have 46 players on the list. Two over the limit…

I'd rather take the two picks to the draft if that is our strategy and Austin isn't trying to blindside Port.
Pick 3 would be great but if there are 5 players that are outstanding and the next 15 are very good, I say we get two very good players.
Mid-Mid, Mid-Small Fwd or Mid-Defender.
Unless they know the Mid they want will go straight into the line up and make an imediate impact, but you'd have to think the only player capable of that would be Ashcroft.

Zero chance we draft a small forward. As it sits, we probably delist Owies & Nigel to get down to 44 players. If they also let Matt Carroll go, we’ll be in the frame for Ethan Phillips during the SSP.

We might draft a small mid like Dattoli & play him as a mid-forward, but it won’t be a specialist.

Really dread the thought, hope we don’t, our last pick 3 was an abysmal boo boo, haven’t fully recovered.

On the other hand, Judd was pick 3. So was Dusty

That said I think I would rather go to the draft with 12 and 14 and have to bites of the cherry

urghh maybe haha ... he still took our money, and turned up fat to pre season and contributed little.

we've been a retirement destination club for so long. players (and coaches) coming here for one big, or one last pay day with no intention of performing.

P Cripps (3 votes) was pick 13.

All we need to do is rely on picks 11 and 12 being Ben Lennon types and we’re golden

Does anyone know how many available spots we have on our senior and rookie lists? I read somewhere recently that Boyd has to be upgraded to the senior list, is that right or has he already been elevated?

FWIW a poster on BF saying;
Blues and Eagles have agreed on pick 12 and 14 for 3, 63, 68 and a mid range pick that the Eagles will get in as part of player movement to cover F/S points.
Announcement expected Tuesday.

Also says Loyd won't be at club at end of 2025.
Fitness program has been reviewed and expect significant changes to weights room and core strength work.
