Have I mentioned the time I was looking to get a new Mercedes?

This is hard ball time.

Gibbs is one of the top players in the comp on his day and this is no time to be chucking him out for no worthwhile return. What is Port's first pick if he wants to return to Adelaide?

Port Adelaide's first pick is #9. This is going to be really interesting. Hope SOS is able to really milk this well. Did you ever get the Merc?

I can see us forwarding the pick onto GWS for Marchbank so that we can keep our #5. So getting an extra player (Lyons) from Adelaide, or whatever else SOS can get, will really make a big difference. Maybe a 3rd round as well from Adelaide, so we can forward that on with #13 for Marchbank and Stewart? Maybe getting too convoluted but it'd work in our favour.

CARLTON midfielder Bryce Gibbs has confirmed to both Adelaide and the Blues that he wishes to return to South Australia if a trade between the two clubs can be arranged.
Crows list manager Justin Reid confirmed the news as the Crows exited Etihad Stadium on Monday.

Sorry ... don't have a source, (mate just emailed this to me).

... after all is said and done, we could be looking at a handful of picks in the top 20 again this year, what with Gibbs and potentially Tuohey. Hopefully we can keep the lowest ones and use the higher for the Marchbank deal.

I can help with the source. It was broken on Trade Radio by Crows list manager Justin Reid, when asked if they had spoken to Bryce Gibbs. It's now been reported elsewhere, including the afl website.

Is Marchbank really worth pick 13??

(I know a few steps to go before that but is he really worth a 1st round pick??)

I don't mind that you don't agree with me. But Adelaide's list manager has just confirmed that Gibbs and his management have voiced a strong desire for him to return home, and that Adelaide has had talks with Carlton.

Seems your sarcasm isn't well placed on this occasion.

Lots of water to go under the bridge was my point. We hold the cards as he has 3 years on a high paying contract still to go. They paid the farm to keep Josh "kick it from the goalsquare" Jenkins so unless they are looking to move on one of their higher rated players, the deal isn't being done.

I don't think he is. I definately didn't think he was worth pick 5, even with steak knives. We really need a midfielder from the draft at pick 5.

The problem I see, is that our pick 24 doesn't get it done. We're not going to get much better for Tuohy from North, if that happens. North would still need to trade for that pick as they don't have anything in the 20's.

So it looks like the simplest arrangement would be to use pick 13, but to get Marchbank and maybe Stewart. Or pick 13 for Marchbank and their pick 33.

We may then look at trading our pick 24 and 33 (from Marchbank deal) for a higher pick?

We're already set to pay the minimum. I guess we could renegotiate and frontload other contracts?

Sorry mate. You've shot straight passed me. I'm not sure what you mean. I know what EFA means, and I noticed you substituted pick 13 for Henderson, but I'm still missing it...

That netted pick 17....but that was a complex trade. Apart from that I can only imagine you are criticising that deal, and suggesting this would be the same?

The simplest way to look at the deal is that we got Harry McKay (pick #8), Sumner, Phillips, Lamb, Plowman, and Kerridge. We gave up Menzel, Henderson.

I'd really call that a win.

Yes, that would be a great option!
(We should have thought of this a few years ago.... but then, we would have stuffed up the pick anyway!)

NB: Whilst the Boekhorst selection was inexplicable, it must be acknowldedged that the Cripps pick appeared equally bizarre at the time...
