Why do you hope it's not Bolton? From where I see it he is well placed to get the gig.

Been a key part of the most successful system going, through Box Hill to senior side (a synergy between 2nds an seniors we can't seem to get right). Seems to have the culture we need too...smiling assassin?

Because he's never played at highest level. Never works as you never get full player respect. Fails each time. I remember Brendon McCartney, highly regarded but also never played at the highest level, coming out of a similar wonderful system at Geelong and struggled at the Dogs. Brittain, coming from under Parko and another who had never played at the highest level, managed to take us from a GF, PF, from Parko's days, to a spoon in 2 years. You can go back before then too with others.

I do not want to go down that path again in our precarious situation. Our tail wags the dog enough, don't give the players another excuse.

You want to go that way, your risk. Especially when there's other seeming competent one's like Don Pyke, dual premiership player, who's had his own team, experienced and highly regarded assistant.

Agreed. We need someone who understands what's required to play at this level. Otherwise we may as well appoint Joyce Brown.

At least she knows how to give birth to a premiership player.

It is just as important imo that the new coach is really focused on player development. Imo the disconnect between the blues and our VFL team has been one of the biggest problems with our player development. As a former coach of the Hawks VFL team , i think that it is a fair bet that Bolton understands this very well. He will accordingly demand and get a top line VFL /development coach as a matter of priority. He of course will also demand and get , assistants that understand what is required.
The above is my number one ask of our new coach, because to get back to the top , we have to develop our own premiership list, not try to buy it like we have in the past. An d we obviously have the task ahead.... But added to that he is reportedly a great tactition . He is not afraid to get in the players faces when needed. He clearly knows how to implement a game plan.
All things point to him being more than competent in all facets of the game

Jim thinks it's impossible for a guy who's never played at the top level to be a successful senior coach. Believes the players won't respect him.

Seriously? Someone still believes that stuff? Lol. That's funny. What on earth has one to do with the other?

Just out of interest, has anyone here ever seen Joel Coen, Steven Spielberg, or Martin Scorsese act?

This is probably the most compelling reason to appoint Bolton. The whole Preston/Northern Bullants/ Northern Blues situation has been a disappointment.

Absolutely. And who the hell at Carlton has the right to give grief to someone like Bolton? Half the team shouldn't be playing 1sts anyway.....some should not have even been on the list.

Barker has lost me.

One Minute we play this take-it-on free running style of play, then we kill our momentum by going all defensive.

Plus, this bringing a player off after he kicks a goal thing is really starting to annoy me. I know other coaches do it too but bloody hell!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
