One thing's for sure. If we come out of this a strong and successful club, we really will have done it "The Hard Way (tm)".

The loss will be closer to three.. I think between two and a half and three.
Interesting to see the Pratts withheld some private fundibg recently.. The club was not capable of picking up the slack.
The sponsor is you'd have to say smaller than Mars.. And will not have a logo that will be conducive to merchandizing.
Oh dear! I fear for next year if I were Mark... Or anybody thinking were going to be coming on.

Forget about ousting presidents and boards it is about paying the bills, we will lose 2-3 million for each of the next 2-3 years, regardless of who is president. Our membership cannot bridge the gap, sponsorship is down, events revenue down, match day attendance down. Unless serious folks have committed to covering the debt we are stuffed.

Even if Carlton people, including me, accept that the rebuild at all levels is on, who wants to see a side lose by 10 goals every other week.

I'm a glutton for punishment, I'll keep supporting Carlton but many will keep their distance until the players shows some serious sustained effort on the field. AND even if they do, we've all but cleared the decks and our kids will get smashed. It a long, long road ahead.

I posted during the year we should focus on paying off our debt and someone responded saying the debt is under control.

Shits me no end that some people think all debt is good and the sun will alwyas shine.

If debt creates growth and profit I'm all for it. With the increase in spend on Footy Dept we have ended on the bottom of the ladder. What a waste of money.

If someone would like to ask a question of the board at the AGM re: the debt, I'm sure you'd get the 'it's under control' answer, but it'd be nice to hear what that response is on the back of another loss.

Would someone like to volunteer? Mark isn't expecting the question. He's met with a few people already to try and avoid any controversy. Sticks must have left him the guidebook.

Isn't "Doc Sherrin" an alias anyway? I don't think that poster's name was actually "Doc Sherrin".

Hang on..... are you saying that you're really "Yazzamatazz"? Like that's what your parents named you?

I only ever knew "Doc Sherrin" as just that, on this forum. So I can't really call him, or her for that matter, anything else now can I?

The old (and some thought deceased) 'unofficial selection committee'. Happens every year...board gets nervous about criticism on the night, has a chat, smoothes waters. Mark no different in this regard to Sticks. They loathe criticism.

More good news reported in The Age. This article appears to be a rehash of one from a few weeks ago but with some minor modifications. The Melbourne Demons made a $562,000 profit. No mention in this article of how the AFL pays (not the Demons) for the wages of various identities at the club - including Paul Roos. Yet at least they were honest enough this time in the article (in contrast to the previous one) to refer to the "equalisation" tax. You know the one...the one that robs money from Carlton and gives it to other clubs so they can make "a profit".

Meanwhile we see more moves to help protect the Carlton brand.....Nice of the AFL in previous years to allow Fremantle to wear purple/ (which is almost dark navy) in their home guernsey, and now also allow Melbourne to wear a monogramed Guernsey not that far removed from Carlton's....yep. The AFL really respects Carlton's unique brand. They really want Carlton to prosper.

"The increase in AFL distribution funding and equalisation of $1.2m was reinvested entirely back into the (Melbourne) Football Department, which goes to the heart of what the new equalisation measures were created for." ie to take money from a club 6 million in debt to give to other clubs to make profits.

This article from the Herald-Sun is a bit closer to being honest with how Melbourne made a "profit". This quote sums up the Animal Farm nature of the AFL.

Peter Jackson said after their 'second consecutive profit reinforced that “we are on the right path”'.
Does that "right path" include obtaining millions of dollars more from the AFL than other clubs? Some clubs are more equal than other clubs I am guessing.
