I think it's to ask as many questions as possible without putting forward any suggestions.

Maybe not, but I don't see a 240 odd page discussion about his future at CFC.

McKay is an ex player.
No need for scrutiny.

I don't have a gut feel for which way the board will go - others may have inside knowledge.

But if they do sack Mick,

I think Dew would be my pick. Maybe Bassett.

But whoever we get I'd like to see some hunger for the job, and a strong team of decent assistants around them to withstand the early blowtorch from cronies/supporters/media.

That means the old cliche of conducting an interview process.
It also means that the successful candidate will have a strong reputation/mojo to attract decent talent for their assistant coaches, as they recognise that this Carlton has finally become an attractive destination.

To me this is the biggest disappointment of Mick's tenure so far.
Either nobody sees working under Mick as a great opportunity, or nobody wants to work for the salary that CFC is offering.

Either way this situation has to change next year.
I don't want Barker, Green, Capuano, or Laidley at the club next year. I think they would benefit from fresh opportunities too.

But can they ride to training on a fixie and make a quinoa and kumquat salad?

They can't right now, but they need to. Which is why Kirk is essential for our social development.

Categorical NO from Ross Lyon:

Sorry, just saw the link is behind a paywall. For those that cant get through the Paywall, opening quote is:

Quote:
It won’t be happening,” the Fremantle coach said yesterday.

Lyon, whose Dockers are unbeaten this season after three rounds and are preparing to host the unbeaten Swans on Saturday night, is tied to Fremantle until the end of 2017.

“I’m contracted for two more years after this and I won’t be going anywhere,” he said.

Maybe we should wind back the clock and get both Brittain and Ratten back as co-coaches and appease the footy gods, who haven't been happy with us for quite a while.

Our list is so full of holes that a talented kid will slot into any position.

..nahhh.. ..core mid, kpp are way more essential than flashy smalls and flankers.. .....target the types that you build a team around, instead of chasing the cream on top.. ..which has been our problem..

..considering the current make up of our list, Cokey Bomber could get the most out of it..

Lyon is the wrong man anyway.
He's not a 'rebuilding' coach.

What about.... dare I say.... Bummer T ?
Built a dynasty at Geelong and finally rid the Club of the 'handbaggers' tag.
I know thers whispers about his 'bad habits' though.

Paul Roos. He is out of contract at the end of the year and we should have got him the first time around by letting ratten serve out his remaining year and then Roos would have been primed instead of having to do a few years in limbo at the dees.

Oh yes it is as simple as that. Could we face the fact Roos did not want to coach Carlton and perhaps the criticism of malthouse's commitment levels based on a book tour should be leveled at Roos who signed a 2 year contract at a bottom club so he can parachute out before he faces the blow torch

Seriously guys, you can't on one hand have a whinge about the club looking for a messiah 'saviour coach' instead of the best coach available....... and then say we should go and get Ross Lyon or [insert favourite former player here]! Surely the answer is a cold, calculated decision process to identify the best possible fit for where we want to go. If that ends up being somebody none of us have ever heard of or if that ends up being a re-signing of Mick then as long as we have consciously, strategically made that choice on the back of well founded analysis then that is the best any club could do.

I follow the EPL and i rate Sir Alex Ferguson as one of the greatest Managers of all time. He was an OK player in his day, not a champion of the game. I'm pretty sure Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) would be up there as one of Arsenal and the EPL's all time greats, don't think he was a champion either. Jose Mourinho who is going to win the EPL this year and some consider the greatest coach of all time was a 2nd Div professional player that couldn't cut it to the big leagues as a player so took up coaching instead. Having been a former champion player should not be a requirement for the job, being the best coach available should be the single and only requirement. if there's a Wayne Brittain-esque dude out there with the right stuff they should be equally considered with the Lenny hayes and whoever else has recently hung up the boots!
