Cretylus lots of people have similar bodies to Brian lake... But they're not Brian Lake
Mr S, I only have 5 exemption orders left (4 minus this one). I cannot waste these precious opportunities on trivialities and analyses on the Great Brian Lake. And because it is too late to retrieve this order, let’s not allow it to go to waste hey Mr S?
Now Mr. S, I trust that you remember the first few years of Lake’s career with the mighty Bulldogs? The young chubby hack who couldn’t kick, and had to be hidden in the last line of defense. Many years before Brian won All Australian selection. Can you recall who won last years Norm Smith Medalist Mr S? And at 195 cm /104 kg has a very similar build to Watson. Lake was picked up by the bulldogs with pick 71. Do you know why Brian Lake went at pick 71 Mr S?
Do you recall Mr S the article “From rags to Riches” which described Lake’s rise in the competition? Do you remember the number of times Fev toweled Lake up in games? So you remember the game when Fev asked Lake WHO taught him how to play the game? Just before Fev turned the game for the Blues against the Bulldogs (even though Lake was punching Fev in the ribs all day)
Mr. S, you forget what the Carlton factory production line has become.
An organisation with poor player leadership, weak culture and ordinary player development processes will more often than not, take recruits with potential and not improve them – sometimes even reducing them to dust.
In fact Mr S, the CFC culture has also reduced coaches to dust. Young, Old, experienced, it doesn’t matter. Have you noticed this trend Mr S?
There are exceptions of course – the self driven and those with innate honesty like Ellard, Brock, Scotland, Curnow and Henderson. The passionate, those with big hearts like Simpson. Ones with huge talent and match winning ability like Fev, Yarran and Eddie.
This is what happens when you drag a tambling through the tiger mill and get nothing out. Drag a Duncan from Geelong through the same mill or our development and cultural mess and you end up with the same result. But Duncan is at the cats isn’t he Mr S?
How do you think Malchevski would have faired if he ended up at the Blues rather than the Swans? Do you recall Mitch Morton leaving the tigers in 2012? The Swans kept in the reserves for most of the year, even though a few weeks he was kicking bags of 8 and 6. They told him wasn’t doing the team things, and chasing etc., He realised that in the finals Mr. S. How did Mitch play in that grand final when he came on Mr S?
Put Mitch Morton through the Carlton or Tiger Mill and we all know what we get. Don’t we Mr S.
So if your contention is that EVERY SINGLE player at Carlton lacks talent (except for Daisy, Everrit and Docherty of course) then I am afraid you lack the basic understanding of how elite sports people improve, and reach great heights, and how the TEAM environment functions.
By your reasoning we wouldn’t allow Doull to play because his first 3 years at the club were in the reserves. Or Simpson would be booted out because in his first 3 games he couldn’t manage a single possession. We wouldn’t play Kouta because he was a Hurdler and looked like he didn’t understand the game in his first couple of years.
Port Adelaide understood the basic at the end of 2012 didn’t they Mr S?
So did the great Ken Hinkley who actually got the players fit and first basic criteria to make them competitive in 2013.
And Port’s revenue hovers around 40 million Mrs S, 17 million less than Carltons.
Port also spends about 9 million dollars less than Carlton on the footy department.
Hinkley was signed up as one the lowest paid coaches in the League and yet still won the AFL coaches Association “Coach of the Year” award in 2013 – his first year as a senior coach.
A club needs to tick ALL of the boxes Mr S to give itself and the players a chance of success.
Sadly the 4 boxes with often don’t tick, are the crucial ones.
I don’t want to waste any more exemption orders on this Mr S. Show cause letters are nearing. We will continue this after I return in earnest on the 17th August 2014 at 9:25AM. We should be firmly entrenched in the 8 by then.
[EXEMPTION ORDER #457823-VB]
