Looking at the footage closely, if this was a big game we would have challenged and he would have got off. I think the head may actually made no contact. I thonk mcDonald drew his head back expecting contact. I am happy to take for Waite to take the lesson but it was a soft report.

I agree with of you both, it was a stupid thing to do , especially given the amount of footy he misses, a dumb ass act from a player in a leadership position (btw-also recognized as not appropriate behavior of a leader by one of the players ie Zac T in his interview of CFC), however as an AFL supporter the decision itself pisses me off. It goes against the spirit in which the game's been played since its inception. Silly decisions like this occur when rules are not construed in light of the purpose for which they were enacted in the first place. I understand the need to protect the head and therefore the need to objectify decisions over-technically where umpires are concerned given they have minimal time to make subjective decisions during play, but a bunch of blokes sitting in a board room watching a screen and eating sandwiches is a different story.

The barb of Waite doing something so utterly stupid hasn't hit home yet - if our forward line struggles to fire against the Saints and we end up throwing the game, it will be interesting what happens to Waite from both a club and media perspective.

Surry, Jarad is always in danger of doing something dumb early in the game, maybe it is white line fever, maybe it is his keenness to get out and play, but it doesn't do the club and Jarrad any good for him to allow him to get pulled into these types of incidents,we are back where we were before his come back,and its not the first time, I would have preferred that he play twos last week rather than this.

Maybe start him on the bench to hopefully allow his blood to cool before he goes on
