Agree. While we may not have the squad to win it this year I'm flabergasted that we have not come out and said our aim this year is to win the premiership and we have no more excuses. This trying to fly under the radar and underpromise/overdeliver bullshit is old hat now. The window is open and it's up to the 60 odd blokes who can make an impact to make it happen.

Great post Syners. It's one of the reasons I was disappointed with the weekends efforts. Not because we lost or we didn't play well, but in both games we were in match winning positions with a couple of minutes to spare and we folded both times. Ruthless teams don't do that. I couldn't imagine the three teams ahead of us (Coll, Gee and Haw) doing it.

Good Post Synbad.

I have thought the reason we are not achieving more is that we are not strong in mind.

We lack the killer instinct.

They should go all out when representing Carlton, no matter what game they are playing. They need to pulverise and pummell teams and not just get over the line.

They need to be nastier.

No use crying about not winning finals, if you dont focus and go 100%.

Case in point against WestCoast, we let them get a big lead before pulling them back at the last minute. Was too late. We started well, but did not finish.

Also our goal kicking is a big issue, we let teams stay in reach when we should have put the game in doubt several times last year. Unfortunately this was the case last Weekend, with Gibbs and Thornton missing absolute gimmies in the dying stages of the game against Adelaide. I know it means nothing here, but its a mind thing.

This is why we cannot beat Hawthorn, Collingwood etc, as we dont have the belief. Whereas we do have the belief against Geelong.

We ran all over Hawthorn in the last two quarters of our last outing.
Yes, a game goes beyond 2 quarters but we seemed to learn reasonably well on the run that night.

Again, we also did pretty well against Collingwood all considered on both occasions last year.
They were bigger and stronger and we were found out, but it wasn't for lack of effort from our group.

we ran all over hawthorn and we lost.
we also have not beaten them in quite a few matches in a row!

means something to me!
close enough is not good enough!
especially when a team keeps beating up on us over and over again!
can't take anything out of that game when you look at the overall record of the two sides head to head!

It may be fair to say we're getting closer. No?
Every team wants to win 22 matches and their 3 finals also, don't they? How are we any different?
If stamping my feet will get us any closer to a Premiership Cup then I'm all in, but the reality is that some things just take time irrespective of which inspirational speech we put up.

We have every reason to feel we have a good shot against Collingwood this year, but we all certainly want to rub Hawthorns nose into the dirt we've been eating against, them in recent times.
They've got Mitchell and we don't and that's my main concern against that side. Not convinced Mclean nor Curnow will give us quite the drive forward that he does, for his team.

I know it is early but after watching the Adelaide game last night ,Paul Bower does not inspire confidence when he has the ball. As some one pointed out "rabbit in the headlights" stuff. He has always been like that so will be interesting to see how he develops this year.

What exactly is it about Bower that keeps this type comment for propping regularly?
Is it the look in his eyes, or maybe the way he keeps his mouth open whilst running and coralling an opponent?

True that he doesn't come across as the most confident player with the ball in hands, but he's hardly a "rabbit in the headlights" as he does take the game on.

All well and good rhetorically.

The same people calling for us to be ruthless and win at all costs are the same ones from last season wondering why we kept Jamo on during the Eagles game, or played Waite whilst injured, or brought Curnow back on in the Saints game, or bemoan why we only "flog" the bottom sides, whilst overlooking that we played four quarters against the top sides every time.

Can't have it both ways.

funny!

lame players don't win games!
trying not to get hurt before the finals is weak!
ruthless is what should have been the mantra against St kilda.
if a fit player got injured during that game its part of any game !
playing crippled is not!
not training when it rains is not even ruthless! its normal!

different!

you need a hard edge to win flags!

Were the Dawks ruthless when they rested half their team against the shockers a few years back?

If Judd got injured in the Saints game you would have gone ballistic that we played him in a nuff nuff game.

is this before or after they proved to the competition and themselves they can win a flag and crush a side that has humiliated they before the football world for a decade?

you get an injury and all players still should run out there the next week with full belief!

cottonball belief when you have achieved nothing to write home about is no recipe for success!.

killing sides you should and have buried you time and time again does!

we are not there yet but we act like we are!

go out! play the game fierce! if you sustain an injury that's bad luck!you still have a competition with what you have and you play it out and gain respect and confidence.

picking and choosing when to go and when not to go collectively does not gain you that!

small meaningful things make big things.

weak things are always weak!

hawthorn should let us win!

Clarkson should let the fev kick his century!

you believe that?

Exactly. Geelong shouldn't have rested key senior blokes during the course of last year. Just made them appear to be pussies.

yes they were!

but they are respected !

there is not one team that does not face them that does not fear them skill wise go the physical stakes and mental area!

three flags in five years. tells you just that!

yet we lose to west coast reigning wooded spoon holders!

we can pat ourselves on the back!

one a grade player they had!

cox !

the rest of them are not that!

many are steak and eggs types or kids.

What about when we tanked Synbad? Did that help fertilize start of the soft mindset?

For the record i reckon we are a bit soft in the mind but it can be turned around and i reckon it will when the team hits maturity just like it did with the "handbaggers" down at geelong.

A week later we belted the bejeezus out of the Bombers and were bordering on heroic v Weagles in WA, injuries and no T-Bird after 1/2 time. Proof of the pudding is in the tasting, the lads looked ruthless enough in the finals last year, it's the dumb losses (read Doggies) that will determine if we are top 4 and flag contenders this year.

yes it does!
but at some stage you need to draw the line.
we tanked years ago!
a knot me those players aroud then are not part of this group!
we would not even have four of our best performers if not for the tanks!

but that was years ago and the club is in a different era now!

no excuses for not gaining ruthless behaviour and competitive combative traits today that we are no longer a basket case!

we are just too cute!

gain some balls!

and this too cute thing is found under a number of rocks around the club!

let's get some substance about us and toughen up!

prove to our players the opposition and everyone else we are the real deal!

fine! if you measure us against the bombers good luck to you!

there is a measuring stick!

prime candidates for a bottom four spot pre season!

the comp is currently been played watered down! many clubs are re building!

we are meant to be a top four team but we lose to the previous years wooden spoon team! and thrashed the bombers!

respect!

He gives the impression of indecision and it was evident on Saturday. It just seems he puts himself in situations where he seems rushed and indecisive.
