He once again provided uncertainty and instability with his answers. It demonstrates what I already knew. Malthouse is an egomaniac who will put his own interests before the teams.
I'd feel sick in the guts if we took the regressive path of taking him on board. Build for the future, he is the past.

Mick clearly sees himself as the Alex Ferguson of the AFL. He clearly believes he has the ability to provide the club with an ongoing coaching methodology and structure that sustains success.

It's obvious the players hold Malthouse in high regard and the likelyhood is he'll be the reigning (2 time) premiership coach. That in itself deserves respect and continued support in the role.

If I was Buckley watching that interview I'd be writing up my resignation and looking elsewhere.

It was interesting that Malthouse didn't refute his management being approached by other clubs. Have we unofficially approached his management ?

That flog Peter Keenan said on 774 that Mick & Greg Swann are best of mates

Speak to some of his departed assistant coaches and you'll get an idea of his true character. He is an egomaniac who believes everything is about him. Fortunately, Collingwood gave greater control to his current assistants and his role now is more of a figurehead to allow him to transition out with dignity.
Unfortunately, he still thinks it's all about him and refuses to let others share the spotlight.

Actually, he doesn't. He does hate certain Carlton people though. Those people's involvement in the club is no longer relevant in 2011 and the foreseeable future.

The real brains of the coaching staff belong to Mark Neeld. And that's from a Collingwood board member. They (Collingwood) are desperate for Neeld to stay and while they have signed most of their current football staff, Neeld is one who won't commit just yet. He is more than ready to become a senior coach. But I've also heard that he values Malthouse' input and won't commit anywhere until he sees what Mick does.

There's another school of thought that Mick's wife would prefer him to pull the plug after this season and stay out of football. She's been a football widow for a looong time. I concur with this school of thought. Malthouse wrote in last week's Age newspaper about 'not really feeling like he was a Collingwood person because he hadn't played and hadn't bled for them' ....that shouldn't be forgotten.

How's he going to cope at Carlton? He isn't. Carlton is not a good fit. If you think someone of his experience is going to come in with an altered game plan and take this list to a Premiership, you a sorely mistaken. He isn't David Parkin. He might have a good friend in Greg Swann, but Greg Swann does not control the hiring and firing decision process at Carlton. He has a say in proceedings, but the decision does not rest with him. He is out of contract as of March 22, 2012. I'm sure pen will be put to paper - but given his on-again, off-again relationship with certain board members, it's not something I would put any money on.

So are we into Neeld then?

Listening to Teague on WA wireless at the moment. Too young and inexperienced for a senior job but it's hard to deny the Eagles form at the moment.

Only a matter of time until he gets a senior gig somewhere.
