Re the Hun
Was last week the first time anyone took notice of Davey? I think not.
Another beat up.
Boomer running scared? I hope so.
Hard to find headlines on a Thursday before teams are announced? I think so.

Sheesh be scared Blues

If I was Harvey I'd worry about the scoreboard once his little burst of emotion subsides.

He is just putting the umpires for the game on notice. Watch how many frees he gets.

Might be an idea to get one of our boys out to talk about their Bazza tactics being used on Setanta. ;)

Funny on several levels:

1. North are the team full of wannabe thugs and snipers, not Carlton.
2. Harvey says he has some "fantastic" teammates then whinges about not being supported by them enough.
3. It is bloody obvious they are really trying to drum up interest for the game.
4. Their own supporters think they're talking shit.

In fairness to Harvey he didn't really make any inflammatory comments, seemed to be more poetic license from the HS sub editors in that headlilne and first paragraph.

Bit of selective memory this targetting of Melbourne players as I recall the commentators last week were critical of Melbourne in how their tactics towards our boys was part of their downfall, but whatever.

Two weeks ago all credit was given to Hawthorn for exposing us as being too soft, and now suddenly we're too physical?... :screwy:

Strong cases for Bower, Yarran

Quote:
CARLTON defender Paul Bower and small forward Chris Yarran both trained strongly on Thursday morning, further complicating the Blues' selection dilemma ahead of their Friday night clash with North Melbourne.

Both players are looking to return from quad injuries but are up against a host of teammates vying for a spot, including Lachie Henderson, Shaun Grigg and Brock McLean.

Let Bower play in the VFL for a couple of weeks and after the split rd see how he is going before being recalled.
Hendo would have to be stiff not to get a game after kicking 8 last week but can't see Waite or Santy making way for him.
Let Yarran have a run in the VFL and advise Eddie and Jeffery they are on notice. Can't see Robbo being dropped.

This is a nice problem to have.

I would bring in Armfield for Anderson. I agree, let Bower play VFL.

If I were Ratts I'd be challenging AJ. Pretty sure Harvey beat AJ last time, and after his latest words I think there is motivation for AJ to play a big one tmrw night.

Hope we don't underestimate this mob, they were 70 to 25 against Lions last week

I'd bring Army and Yazz back in and run the Kangas off their feet like we did to the Aints, and leave teh tough tagging to Carrots and AJ.....

If Hendo gets called up, Waite would go to the wing (or maybe down back), you wouldn't drop him or Setanta. This would actually be my preferred structure (ie Waite wing, Hendo CHF, Setanta FF), but I don't think they will do it this week.

Bower has missed too much footy to come straight in, 1-2 weeks for the ants. I'd bring in Army and Yarran for Anderson and Browne.

I was worried about Essendon* and Hawthorn and I have similar concerns about this match. Last couple of weeks have been okay but I don't think we can afford to be flat against North who sound as if they're pumped for this.

How about resting a player such as Garlett (skinny kid vs long season) or Simmo. We will play finals this year and will need to manage the list well.

Maybe even rest Juddy? He has been batteing himself silly the last few weeks.

a week off next week.

this is a chance to really set up our season.

with a big score against north, and saints v freo, we could realisiticly go into the mid season break, in forth spot, on the same points as saints or freo, and with us playing freo the week after the break, we have a real chance over the next few weeks, to not only set up our season, but give ourselves and enourmous chance of a top 4 spot.

win this week, and a win against freo will see us at 9 -4, in the top 4 and a game clear.

impressive

I'm very happy that Norf are talking up this game, all the pre game verbal argy bargy will help keep our guys focused.

Bower's a gun, but he's played only 2 games this yr - nah, he needs a run in the VFL first.

Two changes:

Ins - Armfield, Lucas
Outs - Joey, Browne

Geez, to think a fit Yarran misses out. :smoking:

Browne would be stiff, but Lucas is a ripper.

Good times.

Looks like a massive crowd expected for this game. Wouldn't surprise me if this game becomes a yearly fixture, with North getting a home game with the Friday night timeslot against a high drawing team in Carlton. I'd say this game will be one of the very few that North won't have to write a cheque...the revenue for them will make a push to keep this game locked in each year.

Getting a bit nervous, although I have liked the way things have gone this week. All the media has been around North Melbourne and hardly any for us. You could say the pressure for North is quite big, as they'll be fighting to put on a good show and get a good result in order to be considered for more Friday night games in the future. Short term though, the pressure is on us...lose this and it could affect our run towards the finals.

David Hale looks set to miss which is a bonus for us. Drew Petrie out helps our cause also. They have tended to play a very tall forward line against us over the last few years, Hale and Petrie and occasionally Macintosh.

Damning stat that we've only beaten them once out of the last seven times...our worst streak had been equalled last time we lost to them; 6 games from Round one 2005 to Round 20 2008...equal to that of Round 14 1996 to the GF 1999.

Our last win against them wasn't at all convincing, I think we were a bit lucky in the end that they piled on 8 behinds in the last quarter instead of 8 goals. As we move up the ladder to becoming a top four team and eventually a genuine premiership contender, we really need to shake some of these bogey sides. North has been a bogey side for years, but it also goes for the likes of Essendon* and Hawthorn. A win on Friday night will go a long way with me.

We must be careful here. This is smart talk by Harvey and the umpires will now be watching us a little closer and no doubt will be ready to pay any little niggle against us.

What pisses me off however is that we aren't at all nearly as bad as other teams in this area, yet are getting this type of publicity.
