No Carlton family has a had an opportunity to go to the football this pre-season. Could this be why our membership sales are slow?

Richmond is an away game and then Brisbane away....families need to wait until round 3 until we get to see action.

I hope the blues get a better deal next year because round 3 to see my first game is absolutely killing me (I would never go to a Richmond home game with kids).

Never fear Diamotism. The HS announced the AFL crackdown of ferals recently on the front page, Richmond supporters won't be allowed into the MCG. The Kids will be safe.

At March 12 2009 - 32,161

we're about 1000 down on this time last year, mind you that was after a spike of about 2000 which I believe may have coincided with a terrific performance minus a number of stars against Geelong. all is not lost just yet

I will be interested to see how many 3 game memberships we have and will sell this season. I would think those will be very popular once the season starts so our membership number might grow later this year.

Also, membership numbers are not always a reflection on the income that is coming into the club. Carltons memberships are more expensive than a lot of other clubs and from what I have been told, we have a high rate of gold memberships and above compared to other teams. Although we now have a 3 game memberships, clubs like Hawthorn sell a lot of 1 game memberships that do not bring in the big bucks but are added to the 'tally'. Hell, even the Western Bulldogs sell pet memberships and they are counted.

That's not to mention our new sponsorship is up there with the best and our match attendances and general admin sales are very good which I am guessing makes us more money that having to sell 1 and 3 game memberships.

Bought the family memberships at Princes Park this evening. Guy on the counter said we'd gone from being 500 behind same time last year on Monday to 500 ahead of same time last year today

I'd quite like to have those sorts of worries

I'm not sure if we're likely to, but if we manage to match last year's membership I think we will have done ok. I think there is a bit more we can do in the long term to get closer to our full membership potential of 50k+, but as a short term result it will be ok.

The main reason for this is that it's been one of the toughest pre-seasons for drumming up membership enthusiasm over the past 7 years. Yes that includes all those awful Pagan years. You see in most of the pre-seaons of those years, there was either optimism, or at least some compelling reason to join up:

2003: After Black Friday there were many wondering whether our club would even survive, but a new administration and a gun coach (well, at the time) were coming to the club and the Blues fans responded by smashing our membership record

2004: A real sense of optimism after what was seen at the time as astute trading/recruiting, especially landing Nick Stevens

2005: Building on an improved 2004, coupled with a pre-season flag, many tipped us to make the 8

2006: This is the only season in the last 7 where there was little buzz in our pre-season, and what happened? Our membership fell

2007: Our off-field saviour was on board, and a pre-season flag didn't hurt

2008: Our on-field saviour was on board, and we were expected to improve

2009: A cheeky membership slogan, and a jump up the ladder expected, we were the hottest thing in town

Collingwood are about to crack 50k.

I know all those pet and baby memberships are lame, surely they add extra revenue without diverting someone away from buying a full membership - so why not add some of those options?

Because we are no posers.

Because we don't need to inflate numbers so the Pres can claim he has the biggest weewee...... How embarrassing for a club like the Hawks - 50 K "members" and nobody shows up to the home games.

Because we are Carlton and fxck the rest.

Membership revenue is the more important figure IMO and it never gets mentioned.
