My apologies Chucky, didn't mean to come across the way I did - was just initially miffed when I thought that my thread post appeared to be hijacked.

I didn't read the announcement this morning, as I was stopping past home breifly on the way to work when I heard this - and quickly posted it prior to leaving.

*part of my mornin' routine - clothes, shoes, brush my teeth and check up on TC* :P

Yeah I am with you on both counts Rhys. I think Ratts is very capable but the "process" stinks.

Only time will tell if that is the case really. If Ratts wins a premiership a la Paul Roos I think there'll be little reflection on any stinky processes. :-D

Mark Williams was the "obvious" choice to replace Jack Cahill.

John Worsfold was the "obvious" choice to replace Mick Malthouse.

;)

Sorry I don't know how to post a link here but according to The Age website Ratten has pulled out of the race for the Melbourne job. He has decided to put all his eggs in one basket and concentrate solely on getting the Carlton job. They say he has firmed even further to get the job.

If he has pulled out of the Melbourne position, then he'd have to have the Carlton job in the bag, surely?

Seems Ratts has timed his run beautifully ..not much doubt now that he's over the line and has secured his dream job.
Congrats to him and good luck!!!
Now the guessing game begins with his assistants :?:

Now he can tank properly without having to worry about losing the senior coaching position.

If Ratts has got the job and Bond doesn't get the Melbourne job is it possible to recruit Bond as an Assistant and possible reserves coach.

I don't know what the relationship is like between Ratts and Bond but if it is good it would definitely be worth considering.

I saw Mark Harvey on the News last night deny that he's being interviewed for the Essendon* job this week.

He said that it wasn't fair to the Fremantle F.C. if he wasn't concentrating full time on his (fill in) Coaching job until after the season finishes.

This prompted me to think about Ratts preparing for a second interview with Melbourne........until..................I woke up this morning to hear that Ratts had stopped the Melb. interviews as it was interfering with his Coaching of the Carlton side.....and I thought....did he see Harvs say that and he agreed or......?.....anyway......that's good !!!.....I agree !!

caught the (very) last bit of gerard healy's 3AW opening comments ... i think he intimated that ratten ISNT over the line cos the sub-committee has deemed that the choice is to be unanimous. said something about bond having interviewed very well ... did anyone else hear this, or at least hear the full spiel?

i posted on this thread that according to a carlton admin insider ratts has got the nod from 3 of the 4 sub-committee members ...

I heard (on SEN I think, not sure, I flick stations a lot) that although Ratten has withdrawn from the Melbourne race, the coaching selection panel is split 2-2 and won't make an announcement until it's unanimous.

Channel 9 said tonight that Ratten had the job but will be announced later. Probably contract details are still being negotiated.

He'd want to, now that he has basically mooned the demons. It would suck for him if Bond were to get the gig ahead of him and to be left out for the Melbourne job.

Will be announced Tuesday according to Hutchy.

I'm one very happy supporter. Now all i need to hear is the Financial Results and Official Announcement of the Carlton Reserves and the smile will remain all summer. Oh and we won't talk about the other thing.

The Age - Connolly in demand to support Ratten
Quote:
Ratten's appointment, while no surprise, appears to have been confirmed by the fact that with less than four days until the recommendation, his rivals for the position, Western Bulldogs assistant Chris Bond and Collingwood assistant Guy McKenna, are yet to make formal presentations to the Blues.

Bond and McKenna have held one informal 90-minute discussion each with the four-man Carlton selection panel that is comprised of directors Adrian Gleeson and Stephen Kernahan, chief executive Greg Swann and football operations chief Stephen Icke. As of last night, neither Bond, who met Melbourne for a second time on Tuesday, nor McKenna, who made his formal pitch to the Demons on Wednesday, had a second appointment with the Blues scheduled.
