It'll be a brave person who puts up their hand to coach the Blues next year. It's fraught with danger, something of a career suicide move.

How long should we give the new coach to turn things around?

It's not suicide. 3 year contract up front with finals by year 3 are realistic targets pending the player cleanout that will come again.

And if no finals in three years time? Can you seriously see us anywhere near the 8 any time soon?

The Carlton job will be an absolute plum job for whoever is successful.
Everyone is well and truly aware of what state our list is in and it would be unrealistic to expect finals in the short term.

As for expectations, I wouldnt be judging us on results but looking for minor improvements.
Those who know me realise I'm not into corporate speak but the immediate and mid term future will be about the processes and not the outcomes.
If our new coach can implement strategies to improve the decision making of the players etc, I'll be very happy. We need training drills to encourage players to retain possession instead of kicking to 50/50 contests as we have too often in the last 5 years.
I'd like to see Gibbs, Kennedy, JR and co. played with full confidence that if they make accidental errors, they wont be dragged or berated for it.

If we can get to the end of next season and our kids have made improvements, if they are making good decisions and enjoying their footy, we've taken big steps forward.
If we lose 20 games, so be it. As long as we have no 80 point plus beltings, it will be a huge improvement.
The next couple of years will be about taking small steps forward and showing minor but tangible improvements.

If anyone truly believes we have done that in the past 5 years, they've watched a different team to me.

I hope it's Ratts or Braddles! I think someone who bleeds blue and has played for us and has been involved with the club is someone who should coach the club!

Dear Ratts,

may you coach like you played...with courage, committment and integrity !

may you harness the enthusiasm of our youth and re-kindled the desire of our more deserving experienced players and win more than you lose !

all the very, very best of luck on your journey

Rocco

It's interesting when Swann talks up Ratts coaching experience. :-D
Not sure what he will say if Voss gets elected for 2008 and beyond. :?

If Ratts isn't selected as coach after a proper search and assessment, so be it but it would be a great shame to lose him in such circumstances...surely there is another way ?

All the best to Ratts ...just hope he's true to his intentions of prioritizing development before his win/loss ratio.

I wonder if Ratts feels as protective of the likes of Denis' favourites Lance Houla Fev etc.? ...some pretty nervous TCers who worship these idols I suspect ATM
