@99 prelim - I agree with what u r saying.

I would go a little further and not only cull (and properly cull) the deadwood players u speak of, but also remove Brad Lloyd and a host of assistant coaches - Hammil, Hansen and Russell to name a few. Replace them! they have all been spectacular failures.

Also WTF has Diesel done for this group? I don't even know what his role actually is :)

It will need to go past Senator Cripps first. I think he's got the numbers to block it

The football world are waiting for us to sack Voss

I'd say some players are as well

I'm not denying the gameplan/selection integrity/confusion/scared angle but do I believe players are busting a gut out there? No way!!!!!

Voss must not be sacked for the long term greater good of the CFC

We have to show the football world and current and future players that we don't exonerate players and sack coaches when it all gets too hard for those precious cherubs

Nothing I detest more than when players arenn't playing for a coach and the new coach comes in saying, "It's a clean slate for you all"...that's bulldust!!!

I know this is the utopian objective but if you are not going to give 100% to the team, each and every week, REGARDLESS of the coach or whether you like his gameplan or instructions, then you can f$%^^ off

This is Ground Zero of Culture...

It's not up to the players to facilitate the demise of a coach. That's the board's job

For that reason, I want Voss to see out the year, identify those who aren't prepared to go to war UNCONDITIONALLY for the team, the monogram, the history, the supporters AND F$%*^& THEM OFF. They don't deserve us

We need to let players know that their heads are on the chopping block first and foremost, before that of the coach. They are well paid and are afforded a lifestyle 99.9% of us envy

Stop playing like a bunch of entitled, fragile, mentally weak, machiavellian, impertinent sooks!!!!!

PS. I'm not convinced Voss can coach but I am convinced he is more invested in wanting success than 3/4 of our list. I'm also convinced Voss knows exactly who the aforementioned sooks are!!

Excellent post.

Thanks...funnily enough, I'm a born again non-coach sacker

I'm livid with so many aspects of Voss' coachng but I believe whole heartedly that there is locker room turmoil. If players just bust their gut each and every week and play for the coach they have rather than playing conditionally, we would be in the 8.

Absolutely certain of that

Effort >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>gameplan every day of week

Players know the Carlton way...sack the coach. I say, NO NO NO NO

Players need to realise we don't sack coaches mid year or (unless it's absolutely necessary) prior to contract

If they don't buy in, they can kick the dew off the grass at a suburban ground all f%^&& year for all I care. They will be destroying their dreams as their value will diminish with every VFL game

It's time to CHANGE...not coaches but the perception of the CFC...there's a small step in changing culture

I am a massive Voss fan and i was wrapped when he got the gig . Sadly , i am now officially sitting on the fence in the Coaching debate . His lack of tactical nous is showing up mor and more . His tactics last night were putrid . That was a coaching underclass if i ever saw one . Terrible . And as far as i am concerned if you have no tactical you can't coach full stop . I mean , what are you there for ? i have been very loyal to Voss and have pulled my punches with criticism . Demons are pretty good , but that game last night was a debacle of the first order from the ten minute mark of the first quarter . For the first time this year i have dropped my bottom lip . Very , very disappointed in everything about our great Club . Its like we have been up a one way street for twenty years and still haven't figured our way out . Fancy not being able to figure out a simple thing like that for twenty faaarkin years for faaark sake .

agree with both of you ...

sacking the coach just continues the roller coaster ... we need to set a message and a standard.

the jumper

you are playing for that, the supporters, the coach and each other ... in that order.

99prelim well said.

The sooks may very well include senior players. And if so… so be it. Arriverdeci!

I was deflated by the Voss appointment and still think he’s limited in his coaching ability. Another sacking would be a continuation of the disasters we self inflict. How long do we hold out? If the losses continue there is a tipping point.

Our list is not perfect….far from it. But which club has a perfect list? We have sufficient talent to be higher up the ladder and competing harder and for longer.

As we know he’s not the sole reason for our predicament. Voss is one part of a sum of parts that has got us to this cluster flower.

Its become fashionable to blame the assistant coaches, rather than the head coach. Ok then, who hired the numbskulls and why is anyone still listening to them?

My view, and it could be wrong is that the longer we hold out, the more the pressure switches from the coach to the players

Players begin to realise that their conditional efforts aren't getting the coach sacked and with the coach still at the helm, some of those players are now being sent to the VFL (IF VOSS SURVIVES, HE MUST DROP PLAYERS HE BELIEVES ARE EITHER NOT GIVING 100% OR MAYBE WHITEANTING HIM BEHIND CLOSED DOORS)

Supporters will actually start to appreciate Voss' ruthlessness and like I said, the focus shifts on the players

I will bet the next tier of players start towing the line more and suddenly, more and more are pulling in the same direction

1. We hold firm on Voss all year, get him to weed out the weeds, and give him the start of next year
2. If it goes to sh1t next year, at least one batch of weeds are gone
3. Cook needs to get rid of Lloyd, Hamill and Clarke as a start, and see if we can not only get some real quality assistants (one of whom is a senior coaching aspirant), but a quality Coaching Director

We then wait and see I guess. we'll know by the bye next year

WE MUST HOLD FIRM - THIS IS THE NEW CARLTON...enough tail wagging dog culture

Yes , Coaches make Assistant Coaches . Assistant Coach's don't make Coach's . Cart before the horse . If we have to surround Voss with guru assistants then we are surrounding the wrong bloke . Coach's knowledge and expertise filters down , not up .

this might be a long one... sorry.

I watched the cats play with a mate last night. He played 20 odd games with them before injury and is a diehard. Was a good game. It's hard not to be envious of a club like the cats. and it's impossible to go to the footy and not see night and day contrast with how other clubs play and go about it; and then how we do.

cfc has no team ethos. we don't block for each other, we don't shepherd. we don't work for each other. The amount of times i've watched docherty hold up play at HB so he can get his kick on the stat sheet, and ignore a wide open saad streaming past him, in the clear - which then makes the other team decide. Do i leave my man and go at saad, or do i watch saad cut us to ribbons?

I remember a little while ago hawkins was on a footy show and he spoke about he gets just a big of a buzz setting up a teammate for an assist, as he does a goal.

Watching the selfless way hawkins go about it - tell me why Mckay (who's down on confidence with set shots) can't replicate hawkin's forward craft by involving others? Hawkins and Cameron never, and i mean never get in each other's way. Stengle and Co are always at the feet, behind the pack waiting for a tap on while the mids come down the field and lock the ball into the zone for no easy exit.

Defensively - they move across the park as a unit, always talking and pointing and making sure other guys are doing their bit. at carlton, there's none of that. it's guys standing there, jogging aimlessly looking around for some direction on who to mark or where to be.

we are such a poorly coached team. it's always been staggering to me, that our board can be a complete shitshow - but why does that mean the playing group on the field have to be? If they're coached correctly, can't they just get on with winning and playing footy?

also - for 10 rounds last season and even in the run home, all the 1 goal losses. we were a team that played hard, knew our role and competed. we were fun to watch. do't tell me players have forgotten how to play. they're being over coached in areas, under-coached in others. players don't believe in the system we're trying to play and outsiders & analysts can't even decipher how it is we're trying to play.

we're not working as a team and right now we have google what 'team ethos' even is. it's bullshit, tbh...

maybe we are...but as I said earlier, if players aren't doing the small 1%rs like selfless decision making (I've read similar trhings about Docherty-where there's smoke, there's fire), they are DROPPED and learn that in a high performance team environment, a shepherd or tap or block is just as important as a stat

I would have no qualms with senior players being dropped by Voss. CULTURE begins with standards, non-negotiables and a team first attitude

me too. i'm all for that. but sadly, even that philosophy is overlooked by voss.

... an integral part of coaching is having the balls to pull the trigger and drop players based on performance, not their rep; and conversely reward players on recent performance not their history.

Doc and Dow are excellent examples.

it's a part of cfc that literally does not exist. MC and voss seem to have their faves, and guys they've drawn a line thru, and that's that.

Voss isn't even moving the magnets, in game.

We were fairly on top of the saints in all areas until HT. Lyon moves Sinclair into the middle who runs riot and blankets cripps at the same time, and we lose. Meanwhile voss and Co sit on their hands and watch it unfold. there are no countermoves coming from our coaching box. there are no plan B's etc...

it's so disheartening to watch week in, week out.

Didn't Young go forward?

Briefly yes, and I’m sure I saw Docherty in the backline late in the game. I also noticed that we tried to play more attacking, instinctive football in the second half (“tried” mind you, not “did”).

Maybe the wheels of change are trying to turn, but they’re very rusty. I hope this continues wove the next few weeks.

I also hope we see the recalcitrants dropped to the VFL.
