We get McGovern and Shiel.
I will hand in my membership if we do that

AFL should just strip the licence off us if that were to occur

Pick 1, the PP and a second rounder for McGovern and Shiel

yeah nah

We need to keep pick 1. We can't stop recruiting quality kids. We should never stop recruiting quality kids. We bring them in year after year after year. That is how you build a dynasty.

If we want Shiel, Setterfield or McGovern then we bring them in another way.

Does anyone know if it is worth it for Sydney to take our two second rounders for their first? A points thing for Blakey?

Depends if they get the Saints' first round pick this year or next for Hannebury.

That'll pretty much happen individually anyway though.

Shiel for pick 1 would pretty much be the essence of a deal there (maybe Setterfield too)
McGovern for the PP

If it were the 3 picks for McGovern, Shiel and Setterfield instead?

PP needs to go to Shiel. That will be better then next years FA pick for GWS.
1 of our second rounders for MM. That is more then fair for his output and type of player.

We shouldn't trade #1 unless we get #2 or #3 back plus stirling silver steak knives. Like #8.
We need to guarantee ourselves one of Lukosis, Rankine or Walsh. I am going for Walsh only because he is ranked #1 at the moment and he is Victorian and a ball magnetic midfielder, exactly what we need.
The Crows have pick 7 at the moment and that may slip to 8 after the Lynch compo, which may well be #3.
GCS would be silly to let one of those go unless they get #7 and a player.
If Adelaide want Lukosis or Rankine they are not exactly in the box seat BUT GCS will be wary of the go home factor unless they get the two SA boys at once, which they will probably do if we go for Walsh.
If Adelaide hasn't wrangled a trade for Lukosis or Rankine and we go for Walsh, the live trading on draft night might be pretty interesting!
As I see it, we are unlikely to win this scenario so we are probably better off keeping the #1 pick.

There is another completely different scenario which involves us and GCS trading between ourselves if they get #3. It does, however, probably involve collusion of some sort as to who will select whom at #1, #2 and #3. If we were t trade #1 for #3 and #20, how would that sit with the AFL?
It gives the GCS the two SA boys guaranteed or two mids with Lukosis hanging there at #3 for us to dangle at Adelaide for their #8 and whatever they have managed to upgrade. Mind you, there needs to be someone pretty special at #8 and I can't see this happening.

My gut feeling is that we will hang on to it.

We got Docherty for pick 33 after he nominated us.

McGovern is not worth more than a second round pick.

#1 and PP should still be ours after that deal is done.

I honestly can't see pick 1 going anywhere. There will be a lot of talk but in the end we will select Walsh with pick 1.

Pick 1 should be dangled to see how much Adelaide want Lukosius, you just never know. Whilst I appreciate the desire for elite talent that only comes either at the top of the draft (then you wait), free agency (but not too many elite free agents will be wanting to come to the bottom side), getting lucky in the draft with the gem others overlook (can't rely on luck) or trading (and if the incoming is a known elite you have to give value back) we have so many list fillers that even without injury our bottom 4 or so are well below par. One gun kid won't turn that around, but a handful of solid firsts quality players could. Get us a bit more competitive in the short term, fill that age/experience void we have, move up the ladder a bit, all the young talent we already have maturing a bit, another reasonably early draft pick next year, suddenly we are a destination club and a chance to pick up top-end free agents to go the next step to finals contention, which in turn heightens the perception that we are a club on the rise, our youngsters mature more, gun free agents consider us an option ...

Not saying I would be unhappy with keeping pick 1 and getting the gun, just that at some point an offer could be too good to refuse, no sense in not finding out.

It'd be tempting to dangle that carrot in front of Port Adelaide too, and then see how far AFC and PAFC are willing to go to get it.
