Swans enter race to land Blues defender Zach Tuohy

THE SYDNEY Swans have entered the race for Carlton defender Zach Tuohy.

Tuohy is due to come out of contract at the end of next month and has already attracted keen interest from North Melbourne.

The Swans are believed to be among at least two other clubs who have recently put their hats in the ring for the 26-year-old Irishman.

A straight swap for their first round pick sounds about spot on to me.

And then on-trade that pick (#16-18) & the 3rd rounder from WB (#52-54) to GWS for Marchbank, Steele & Corr/Stewart?

We keep #5, #23 & #41 for best available mids and get the 3 GWS players for the price of 2 (Tuohy + a pick in early 50s).

That would be amazing. To cap it off perhaps if we traded Everitt and Graham for a pick in the 20's (I know it's unlikely) then we use that pick and #23 to upgrade to double dip in the 1st round.

* Ps take off Steele, just no way would we get him as part of the deal.

2E would be sensational at the swans.

He would kick 20+ goals off half back in their system and at their ground.

Aren't you setting your sights a bit low?
Why not Touhy for their first round pick this year and next + Coniglio, Cameron & Shiel? If req'd we can throw in Daisy Thomas and our 5th round pick as a sweetener?

I think the likelihood of my suggestion eventuating is similar to the likelihood of straight swap for 1st round pick + the subsequent on-trades and swaps suggested above... (I would love to be wrong, but I just can't see it...)

Are we able to trade for Sydney or GWS' academy/drafting rights??

Id like dibs on an entire state of the most promising kids to put into development programs!! What's Carlton's academy rights again?? Do we get dibs on the best players to come out of the Bundoora TAB at 3am? Oh wait we don't have any draft rights. Only father son, like every other team.

Pretty funny that the two teams most likely to win the premiership his year are also brimming with all of the best young players in the league. Which is nice.

Tuohy for #18ish is weighted in our favour, but I don't think it's as fanciful as you think. We aren't desperate to offload him and he isn't desperate to go. The Swans are in a position to pay overs in a trade to get a player who fits an important role in their structure. He is an established AFL player coming into his prime. The Swans know he will be good for them. We might need to sweeten the deal with a future later pick, but we should definitely be aspiring for a pick under #25 for Tuohy.

Good clubs (like Geeong with Lachie) hand over slightly overs to get their man & get the deal done. Swans handing over their first is slight overs but I wouldn't be surprised if they offered it up just to get the deal done

Hawks have done similar as well.

Helps when you only have a few holes to plug.

Any thoughts on James Stewart from GWS??
196cm, 93kg has played 18 games for 18 goals.
Woth Chris Mayne picking Collingwood, he may chose the blues, if he leaves.
I believe he would add value straight away.
May package him with Marchbank??
Heard last night on Sen that Callum Twomey rates McGrath higher than Brodie.
Would love to add either one for pick 5.

Ok, that makes some sense. I hope you are right - would be great if it works out that way. We need to find a way to get more picks <20 or at least <30.

Got a feeling we are going to have a play for Tom Mitchell. Trigg was very coy when KB asked about Mitchell saying not good to discuss whilst his team is still playing. Got a strange feeling that we might be into his ear.

We are into his ear ... But going to cost too much coin and not worth what he is asking for ... That type of coin is payable to players that get you over the line ... He plays his best when others around him are playing well ... He isn't the sort of player that gets his team over the line.

Trigg mentioned a couple of times in his talk this morning the importance of structuring the Cap so that payments were fair and equitable across the whole list. Could this have been a small insight into the need not to pay overs for an incoming 'star' just as we are close to the end of whatever we are paying Daisy.

So if Mitchell goes to Hawks for a 4 year deal worth say $600k per year, is that overs??
If we offer say, 4 years for $700k per year, is that overs??
I would be more than happy to land Mitchell on that, but it will not happen..
Take pick 5 to the bank for McGrath/Brodie or whoever..
Let's pick up Marchbank and Stewart and move away from Mitchell who couldn't care about us...
Still hearing Honeychurch name mentioned around the traps...

With all the talk about Marchbank, Stewart and other talls, and now Trigg saying pick 5 isn't in in play....could we be looking at moving Casbault on?

If he couldn't field (which is likely as why would you sign for 1 if you are offered elsewhere) a 2 year deal elsewhere, what currency would he fetch?

How many players sign contracts a month before trade period to see them get moved on during trade period?

jacks and jones both out of contract and presumably gone at the end of next season, sos most likely looking ahead and trying to maintain key position forward depth for 2018 and beyond.
