I like Mullet, I thought North made a mistake delisting him.

I wonder if O'Shea is now a chance of being picked late in the draft.

In summary:

10 players off the primary list:
Bryce Gibbs
Dylan Buckley
Rhys Palmer
Simon White
Blaine Boekhorst
Billie Smedts
Kristian Jaksch
Liam Sumner
Dennis Armfield
Daniel Gorringe

One thing I notice looking at that list, is that with the exception of Gibbs, there's little real proven AFL quality in the list, hopefully turning over the list quickly can add some real value in time.

3 back on (Lang, Kennedy & Lobbe). If the rumour is correct, then also Mullet as a DFA. So we'll have up to 6 picks for the senior list.

Three rookies off the list:
Ciaran Sheehan
Matt Korcheck
Andrew Gallucci

Players still out of contract for 2017 (as per contract thread, unless I've missed an announcement):
Graham (senior list), LeBois & Glass-McCasker (both rookie list). I'm assuming all these will get 1 year deals, simply based on having made 13 changes already.

Does anyone know what the rules are around list sizes? It looks like we had 38 senior players with 6 rookies this year (although Korcheck was a Cat B wasn't he, is this in addition to the normal list. I'm assuming Sheehan wasn't still a Cat B rookie?)? I'm wondering if we'll use 6 spots in the main draft, or whether 1 or 2 might be converted into additional rookie picks (if allowed and assuming that we don't pick up on more than one DFA)?

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the options are?

Wonder what our turnover was in that period between 1989-92ish? I do recall a lot of player movements during those years.

Much bigger lists back then.

AFL fixture revealed

The Blues have today secured the signature of former North Melbourne player Aaron Mullett, on the first day of the AFL Delisted Free Agency Period.

The 25-year-old utility arrives at Ikon Park after 85 senior games with the Kangaroos.

Originally taken by North Melbourne in the 2011 Rookie Draft, Mullett made his debut in Round 22 against Fremantle impressing early with 17 disposals. In 2017, the defender averaged a career-best 20 possessions a game, leading the side in rebound 50s and second for running bounces.

GM List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said Mullett was a strong addition to the Blues’ playing list.

“We’re very pleased to give Aaron another opportunity at AFL level, one we know he will fully embrace,” Silvagni said.

“An impressive contributor for North Melbourne’s backline, Aaron showed his talents as an effective rebounding defender. However recently, he has also been pushing through the middle so we see some exciting versatility there.

“Importantly for our young group, Aaron provides valuable experience after seven seasons at senior level. With a strong pre-season campaign, we’re confident Aaron will be in a position to cement a regular spot in our senior side in 2018.

“After another 13 list changes following the end of the 2017 season, our list is continuing to take shape and we’re excited about Aaron joining the ranks under coach Brendon Bolton and his team.”

Mullett will join the full playing group at the Club when they commence the pre-season campaign on Monday 13 November.

Mullett will do a much better job running the wings and making play than Boekhurst could. Upgrade.

He played a bit in the midfield this year.

If not as a rebounding back he may add to midfield as an outside mid/ wing.

Not sure if I'd have him play as a rebounding HB.
I've seen him lose a few one on one contests.

With the influx of quality players and 6 more picks for the Primary list, we should turn the corner this year.
Those 7-8 losses by small margins could become wins this year.

Lets stick it right up 'em on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights!

How Stephen Silvagni has helped drag Carlton’s list out of a deep dark black hole
Jon Ralph is obsessed with us right now wrote:
IT is the recruiting black hole that could have brought Carlton to its knees.

Eight years of drafting and trading that secured the Blues a collection of list cloggers, draft busts and the odd star.

Fittingly, when all else failed they turned to a club legend with the nickname “SOS”.

Carlton needed saving and in just two trade and draft cycles, list boss Stephen Silvagni has done extremely well to begin turning the ship around.

And yet Carlton’s latest bout of delistings this week laid bare the dramatic extent of the list overhaul.

The Blues have turned over 64 players in five years, effectively turning over their entire list one and a half times in that period.

***********

So how far is Carlton away from surging up the charts?

The defence is clearly the strongest line, with Jones, Jacob Weitering, Marchbank, Kade Simpson, Sam Docherty and Sam Rowe all mixing and matching.

Gibbs’ departure leaves the midfield a little thin, but if Matthew Kreuzer, Patrick Cripps, Marc Murphy, Kennedy, Ed Curnow, Petreveski-Seton, Lang and Kerridge stay fit it is at least building in momentum.

The front six is clearly the line in most need of patience, with Harry McKay a two-gamer, Curnow a freak who still needs time and Levi Casboult’s best year in footy still only bringing 34 goals.

With two more successful drafts this will be a list Blues fans believe is going places.

Kerridge really improved last season. A lot cleaner hands after a shaky Melbourne game, better decision making and cleaner disposal.
