Could see Ratten being the next coach at Melbourne and bringing scrubs with him, just as Craig bought Sellar across.

Assuming first round draft order is as follows:

1> GWS
2> Melbourne
3> Saints
4> Bulldogs
5> Lions
6> Port Adelaide
7> Gold Coast
8> Adelaide
9> WCE
10> North
11> GWS
12> Essendon*
13> Richmond
14> Carlton
15> Collingwood
16> Geelong
17> Sydney
18> Freo
19> Hawthorn
20> Gold Coast

First move would be to try and move our first rounder up to GWS' 11. Warnock or Hampson plus 14 for pick 11 and Golds. Pick 11 goes on Darcy Gardiner.

Clear out the dead wood. Luke Mitchell, Marcus Davies, Aaron Joseph and David Ellard are the first four delisted, Heath Scotland announces his retirement. Andrew Collins and Rhys O'Keeffe are advised they won't be offered new deals. Ed Curnow and Tom Bell are promoted to the senior list. Cachia and Dale are retained as second and third year rookies respectively. Currently have picks 11, 33 and 51 and 4 rookie spots.

Offer Simpson and Robbo to various clubs. Simpson goes to the Bulldogs for pick 58 to replace Cooney who ends up at....Richmond or something, Robbo ironically ends up at Bruisefree Melbourne with the compo pick they get for Sylvia (#38)

McCarthy and pick 51 gets swapped to Adelaide for McKernan and Luke Thompson. Picks 11, 33, 38, 58

Watson goes to the Dees for 56. Despite better efforts, no interest in Duigan who is then delisted. Picks 11, 33, 38, 56, 58, 69

Final bit of trade activity is Jeremy Laidler straight swap for Luke Tapscott, and pick 33 exchanged for Polec. Mark LeCras is announced as a free agent signing.

In:
Mark LeCras
Jared Polec
Luke Tapscott
Shaun McKernan
Luke Thompson
Picks 11, 38, 56, 58, 69

Out:
Robbie Warnock (GWS)
Kade Simpson (WB)
Mitch Robinson (Melb)
Heath Scotland (retired)
Matthew Watson (Melb)
Pat McCarthy (Crows)
Jeremy Laidler (Melb)
Nick Duigan (delisted)
Aaron Joseph (delisted)
David Ellard (delisted)
Luke Mitchell (delisted)
Marcus Davies (delisted)

Great effort!!

30 years old, on a fair bit of coin, has clearly lost a yard of pace, yet still by all reports a great leader around the club.

As good as he's been, I'd rather the extra coin for the free agency period.

Rhino if you think importing a whole lot of rejects and picks past 38 is going to change anything you are kidding yourself.
I agree with most of your cuts but we need to look at trading a Gibbs, Kreuzer, Robinson or the like. Players that may get us some picks in the top 20 and then bank on our recruiters and development to bring them on. Your suggestion will lead us to mediocrity. The only trade I would go for is a Key Postion Backman to release Henderson. I don't even want Thomas at 26 years old with a bung ankle.

Errmm, I also advocated trading Robinson....and two depth KP backmen that are still young enough (and rated well enough at junior level) to turn it around. Not to mention using our first pick on the best defender in the draft in Darcy Gardiner. Also you contradict yourself in saying that my changes won't change anything, but then also will lead us to mediocrity?

I'd like to trade Kreuzer ahead of Warnock or Hampson, but really - what are you going to get that is so far better for Kreuzer than you would Warnock or Hampson? Realistically, the latter are worth late 20s to late 30s picks, or you upgrade picks with them. Kreuzer, you'd probably get a late first rounder. Why trade the best of the lot to essentially move up 10 picks? Especially when Warnock is probably on similar coin?

Gibbs' market value would be minimal in comparison to what he offers on field. What do you think we'd get for him?

I reckon our biggest issue is players who can run and carry effectively. Simpson is done, Lucas is ordinary. Looking around the league, there's not many around that you'd be able to get across who aren't already past it like Simpson (Dal Santo), or are soft as butter (Pearce).

Would rather look to the draft, and try and instill said hardness for the contest via the VFL in kids.

Agree. I've said it time and time again but despatching players like Simmo now, kills your club culture. You build jack out of such a move.

Why does Scotland have to retire? Just because he's 30 something? Still in our best team.

Kills the club culture? Come on...our club culture in modern history has been built upon largely being ruthless with players once they reach 30 and no longer having what it took, before promptly shipping them off to Moorabbin.

Kreuzer is different, in that he's knocked back a better offer, stayed loyal and still has plenty of football left. Simpson is pretty much done.

If anything, our culture is shit because we haven't had our clean out of Perovics, Jezzas.

I expect Scotland to retire. Based on his interview with the club website the other day, I don't feel he sounded particularly optimistic about the prospect of going on next year. I think he's slowed down a bit too.

unless u want these kinds of performances and be the next richmond...we need to pull something out of our arse and do some planning...you cant keep things the same

but before simmo goes.. i want lucas gone...!!!

Any thoughts on Dawson Simpson?

Decent age, 208cm, well down the Geelong ruckman pecking order. I'd take him as a speculative rookie pick if he lasts that long. Would probably be a prime candidate for Hawthorn's annual pick the shit ruckman with pick 90 in the draft..

   One word. Loyalty to the jumper and club. Lose that and you have nothing within your club. Throw players like Simmo & Lucas (which is a disgraceful suggestion by the way) and you can kiss your club good-bye

I don't think we would get much for Simmo.

The Dawson Simpson idea isn't very good.

Pick 50~ is irrelevant in the scheme of things.

It's the savings in the salary cap towards a free agent and then more game time for a draftee are the main benefits.

True, surely Simmo would be an upgrade over Rodan.
