Don Pyke would be an interesting acquisition. If he fits our criteria why not.

Can someone explain to me what a Director of Coaching does for a n00b that an experienced coach doesn't need?

Does anyone know what kind of ego Craig has? Will he not impose himself too hard as director?

I was at a Carlton v Port Adelaide match a number of years ago and got introduced to Neil Craig by one of our city's leading sports journalists during the half time break. Craig was watching the Power as he had the Showdown the following week to contemplate. I could not be more impressed with the man. He was engaging, down to earth and treated me (a member of the public) as an equal in the conversation. I'll never forget the encounter. He is a truly decent guy.

Yes I have met him as well
And completely agree.

nah, sounds good to me.

i'd like to see all new line coaches, but failing that... especially a new ruck and defensive coach set up.

As long as brad green goes
Im happy.
Im getting myself adjusted to a Bolton possibility as I refuse to hate 2 coaching choices in a row.

I wonder if Guy McKenna has been approached as a senior assistant?

We can't have someone who hasn't played at AFL level. Failed each time. Even if they're smart and know how to coach they just don't get the respect of the players.

Neil Craig never played AFL.

Neil Craig play SANFL when it was the equivalent of the highest level pre-AFL days. Coaches that haven't played at the highest level have always failed for the very reason they don't get the respect of the players. You can want to risk it if you want given where we're at but if it fails we are in real strife. This appointment must be right, it's essential.

Some of these current day players just out of the under 18s wouldn't know (and weren't even born) when Neil Craig played SANFL. So it wouldn't matter.

I once heard a story about Bob Rose when he took over as Collingwood Coach after they sacked John Cahill, some of the younger players asked "who the hell is this old guy" when he addressed the playing group for the first time.

Wish we'd have let the Poms know about the test career of Trevor Bayliss....

Craig is linked to Buttifant's job pretty sure.

I don't know much about Bolton other than the obvious of what he did when Clarko was sick, but I'll be happy if he gets it simply because it's someone from the outside & a gun club. Look @ Simpson, Beveridge and even Hardwick.

Barks seems like a good guy but he's tainted for being around for too long - as unfair as that might be.

It's not unfair, unless there's a VFL draft I haven't heard about that we're tanking for.

I know that Guy McKenna and Ken Sheldon are going to start a bit of a business venture together.

Getting to know Brendon Bolton
http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2014- ... don-bolton

Quote:
Bolton began his coaching career with North Hobart in 2003 after a distinguished playing career in the VFL and State football in Tasmania.

In his first year as head coach at North Hobart, he took the team to a premiership in the Southern Football League.

From there, he spent a few months with Tasmanian Devils in the VFL in 2006 before moving back to Tasmania where he took over as head coach of Clarence in 2008.

There, he helped develop them into one of the best sides in the state.

At the end of 2008 he returned to Melbourne where he was appointed senior coach of Box Hill Hawks, Hawthorn’s VFL affiliate and began his close working relationship with Alastair Clarkson.

He coached Box Hill to consecutive finals appearances in 2009 and 2010.

Caro reckons it's Bolton and Pyke...... ahead of Barker and Dew.

Seems to be all heading towards Bolton. A mate at Hawthorn reckons he's all but got the job. Apparently he was close to getting the Crows job last year. I thought they might have approached him.

He would be a very interesting selection.

Pyke would be an appointment akin to Adelaide's selection of Phil Walsh, which seems as sound as Bolton.

Good to see all these 99-100% rumours are turning out to be utter rubbish. Gotta stop listening to the footy people at clubs unless they're in charge of the purse strings because it's all just posturing and gossip otherwise, at least at this level of information.

Not sure how Bolton 'has got the job' if he is yet to be formally interviewed? Have we picked him from watching his press conferences?
