Oh and if youre wondering what Simmo is talking about... thats it in a nutshell.
Lazy work ethic

Some guys work hard and most dont.... on and off the park

Simmo feels more empowered by Mick i reckon... hes showing real leadership these days...
Hes calling out the bludgers and the guys who just dont wanna put their skates on and work hard...

I don't think so, Ken Hinkley has a better list to work with at PA and the administration side of that club is much better than what ours is. The change in Port Adelaide's fortunes was not simply due to a coaching change.

People always like to take the name of the latest coach that is doing ok and say things like we could have had him if we had gone through a proper process. Keep in mind that Ken Hinkley had been passed up by more than one club that was going through the 'process' before landing the PA job. He wasn't PA's first choice either if i remember correctly.

agree it helps to hAve a decent admin but
Port were crap until Hinkley cAme along The guy has turned that club Around and he is exactly what this club needs

I think the financial stabilisation off the field from Koch's presidency has as much to do with their rise as Hinkley's effort on-field.

Ok the next one is Mick doesnt wanna see any players recruited to the club without having the fire in the body to succeed ... losing wont be an option .
Im pretty sure Cazzesman would tell you they will not be recruiting any players like they have over the years with talent but not the desired competitive approach to the game.
Cripps probably fits that bill as would the other draftees.

malthouse cannot believe the kinds of players we hav been recruiting not only playing profile wise but their lack of competitiveness ... and thats just not on the playing field but also how they prepare themselves as footballers
lucas
bootsma
yarran
watson

can go on and on......

Our players must learn to be competitive beasts... they know it..!!!//... they agree... but theyre pretty big habits to shake...!!!
One way or another if they dont change the tune of the song theyre humming to... they wont be here.

I dont know about Bryce exactly... but i know he is one.. and mick wont have a problem with him walking unless he changes tune.

These habits have been here since Fevs time.. and as much as i love Fev he and the older players at the time have allowed some pretty bad habits to form around the club.
Lance

There were a bunch of them... @#$%&! around... never extracting every bit of themselves because they could always rely on talent.

Its caused a void in work ethic.
Waite is in it and others get sucked in to it.

Only one bloke of our number 1s has the work ethic required...

If you want to know why this club has been floundering for many years... thats it ina paraphrase

..agree entirely, finals footy players are in the minority on our list.. ..but it's these that we must build around, and weed out the fakers..

Malthouse respects Ed more than some of our big names.

Trains like a demon and keeps up with the gameplan even if he has no skills.
Same with Simmo and Walker ... Carrazzo .. he hurried him back for exactly that reason...Henderson a couple of others...

Falls away after that.....

Don't underestimate the role of Alan Richardson either. I credit him with a lot of the so called success Ratten achieved over the past few years.

Very good football person.

Its universally agreed that were good when things are going well... but when steel in mind and body are needed we fall apart.
Right now we have a few underdone footballers... and because these guys do not understand what is needed on and off field to succeed .. they simply dont have it in them to help step up and carry a team mate who might be behind in where he is....
Put simply... if you have a few underdone brothers out on the field.. everybody must lift themselves that little bit more to pick up the slack.(Think Sydney last finals againt us)
We just fall away like a pack of cards.
Everybody doing the mere minimum and not attempting to grow another leg to make up for adversity.
Whether that is physical or mental isnt the point.. they need to learn to do it....!
They cannot blame the gameplan when theyre not doing the basics. The players themselves know theyre not doing it.. and havent done everyting they could in their career at the club to make sure they can stand up to the rigours of AFL.
Malthouse told the board exactly this last year.. and he was proven correct.
The 150th was way too big a deal to fix the problem...

Make no mistake unless Malthouse doesnt want the job.. hes not leaving in a year or two...

Drastic changes will be made end of year... all over the footy dept.

Just to recap
We dont have what we need preparation wise to get to the top.
If were confident and are allowed to play the game on our terms were ok.
If there is resistance we stagger.

This is a problem that has been part of the club for so long its now ingrained .
This is the biggest problem this footy team will need to fix before ita gameplan or anything else.

They go to ground way too easy....mentally... because its easier to do that than stand tall.
But training hard, work ethic and mental toughness are habits for some.. impossible for others.
Come will ahve to change how they think... and some will have to hit the highway.

Actually time to wake up to ourselves.

Weve been asleep for years.... on and off field.

You cant fix things if you want a bunch of downhill skiers to pin point accurate passes around as a reason why were no good

Basics and then the rest.....

Cant do the rest when there is no base.

There is nothing in what i wrote that surprises anybody here with micks assessment if were honest.

i dont mind the club finding some honesty... but it needs to be all over the club....

This part wll be taken care of....... some of the players have had a gutfull of some of the others.

AND people will be pleased to know Chris Yarran is beginning to wake up ... baby steps but he is... others havent

They're your words again.

If there is to major review then MM himself needs to be reviewed - Wiley, Laidley, Barker.

Will MM allow the club to appoint a senior assistant and have a greater say in things?

This is what I meant with my thread about the experienced players for one reason or another not being tip top right now and this has exposed the second tier which is just not up to the standard required.

And it is what Mick said the other night about players being underdone, and then things fall apart and then confidence diminishes

I have no idea if the game plan stacks up with a good, hard working, quality list though, time will tell on that one by the sounds of it

Interesting point you make about Yarran? Not sure what has triggered a change for the positive

He is one of a biggest success story this year. Can really see a significant improvement in his efforts and leadership. Thought he would be another wasted talent.

Meanwhile Gibbs keeps jogging along. Mick needs to throw him in the middle where he cannot hide. Make or break Gibbs. Can't accept any more wasted possessions from our other midfielders.

Menzel is the one to watch. If we develop him right, build his engine and play him in the middle, Watch out!!!

Ok my words ..

now your words.....

"Will MM allow the club to appoint a senior assistant and have a greater say in things?"

Mick wants shit coaches does he? Theyre your words.
Who could we have had that Mick said no too... apart from the guys that were here before ?
We went after Ling / OBree / McLeod .. they didnt think what we offered was worth it.

Why do you think ... think about this very carefully effes... because you will be tested... for wishful thinking......

why do you think.... we have capuano and barker for 5 or 6 years?
a)because mick loves crap assistants? (think who collingwood set him up with and he didnt have a problem with them being there)
b)because theyre his friends and he brought them to the club?
c)because we are penny pinching.....??

Too much big footy....... stay away from it youll rot your brain......

No surprise Brown and Richardson didn't stay...they're much better than what MM brought with him...(Wiley)

The quality of coaching staff went backwards when Richardson and Brown departed and MM came in.

I've got no doubt Mick is now working on a new methodology for the years ahead.
There will be a playing list cull in Sept/Oct, but the rebuild has already begun.
