Contracted until the end of 2017, so I'm curious as to how it would play out if by chance it was to eventuate.

Oh. Great
So we can overcook the goose with greed getting as many expensive forwards as possible
And play boring roos style footy as well?
Wowee..I cant wait for that.
Get the horse!

Please no more proven coaches!! How many of these actually win flags at another club??
Get someone who will be the best for Carlton not the best at a previous club!

I am a fan of his relationship style..
How he relates to players and builds their confidence. But..
I often forget that its
largely due to him that we have this low scoring overly defensive style infecting clubs.
So ..it has been a confusing journey with him yes!! I want us to get him..then I remember what our playing style could be like and
Yeee-ikes:shock:
I dont want him or any rootsy babies either.
I mean
We might not even get the psychological benefits with the Horse
Who knows what he is like.
More to the point
Why are we even taking OR's comment as gospel?
He might have been bored and dropped a bomb for fun.
Right OR?  :P

Follow the money. Betting agencies will give you the indicators.

Agreed.

As to the "why"... I wouldn't at all be surprised if the other favourites (Bolton and Lloyd) didn' actually want the gig. Barker will get the job.

Adelaide suddenly being in the market for a new coach has done us NO favours whatsoever. The best aspiring AFL coach in the land will go there, and we will get whoever came in second (i.e. the devil we know, Barker) who is at $1.80 in front of Bolton at $3 and Lloyd at $5.

Nah, betting agencies just follow the punters, who follow the media. Think they always max. the payout for coaches at $250 or $500 due to the outcome being based on inside knowledge, so this is just novelty factor only.

For example at the start they had Worsfold $1.50, then when Barrett dropped LLoyd's name he came in from $41 to about $7, Pyke came into 5th favourite purely on the Denham story.

In 2013 they had Ratten shorter than odds on late into the process for the Port job, when in fact he was well out the running etc...

Yeah just bet on the favourite!
They always win !

In all seriousness I think it looks like Barker is in the Top 3 at least.

The coach who presided over the greatest losing margin in over 100 years is a hot favourite for the job.

Only at Carlton

What to believe? Today's news.

Interim Carlton coach John Barker says he is happy with the process the Blues have undertaken in their bid to find a new coach for 2016 and beyond.

Three days out from his 10th AFL match in the caretaker’s job since replacing the sacked Mick Malthouse, Barker has yet to be formally interviewed for the permanent position.

Current Hawthorn assistant Brendon Bolton, Fremantle assistant Simon Lloyd and Sydney’s Stuart Dew are also understood to be right in the running for the top job.

All three of those clubs will be involved in finals action this year.

Speaking at the annual Peter Mac Cup launch on Wednesday morning, Barker said Blues chief executive Steven Trigg and president Mark LoGiudice had been very clear about their vision for the club, which is languishing in 16th position on the ladder.

“I’ve had nothing but real clear conversations at the moment, with the board, with the CEO,” said Barker.

“They have been really open and transparent about the process that is occurring.

“They need to do their due diligence about who the next coach is going to be, that is just good governance and we are doing that process at the moment.”

I hope it's Bolton. Purely based on gut feel

a) I trust the guys on the committee, esp Ange and Ken Sheldon
b) I have little-no confidence in the Board to make the right call (given their track record)
c) I admit I don't know much about any of those who appear to be the frontrunners. However, while they all seem to have good bits, none of them appear to have the all-round benefits of, say, Alan Richardson, Adam Simpson, Phil Walsh (RIP), or Luke Beveridge.
d) Notwithstanding all that, I'd probably be happy with any of them apart from Barker (again, I admit not based on fact or deep knowledge). I just cannot see the amazing transformation of any of the lines he has coached; am not convinced by the post-MM improved attitude of the team before the past few blowouts b/c I reckon I could have had a similar effect by 'backing the boys to back themselves' which will not a strong team make. And I'd be surprised that we'd appoint a guy no other club has shown any interest in over the past couple of years of high coach turnarounds. Plus, I have seen a helratlavalot of kicking sideways and backwards and still ending up in trouble...
