It is interesting considering there's no shortage of people suggesting Cowan might be due for a break too

Is that a moo point given our injury list?

It was last week but we now have Cow in ahead of Boyd who is an emergency.

'Democrat" US Governor Eric Holcomb is on an Australian Good will tour and attending his first Aussie Rules game tonight.

On the ABC this morning he said he was "...looking forward to going to tonight's game and cheering out "GO CARLTON!"

Go Blues

The PA midfield group looks great when they get clear of the congestion and look to score from stoppage.
They seem to do it with ease once they get out. WE have to stop that from happening.

Carlton have been ranked 18th for points against from stoppages.
No doubt Sweet will try and hit ball to open space.
If Pitto can keep the ball in close for Cripps to get first hands on it, that's a good start.

Last week's return of Hewett to play defensive mid really helped in this area.
He's really disciplined and holds his position at the back of the stoppage and doesn't get sucked into chasing the ball.
I expect Cincotta to tag 'hot head' Butters in the midfield, and apart from CBs Walsh to play more on the outside.

Glad we have Kennedy to add muscle at the stoppages.

Really obvious this is where the game will be won or lost.
Its going to be a grind like the first 3/4ers of last game.

Lose this and we will be on equal points with Port and drop down to 5th or 6th on the ladder.
Win it and are 2 games clear of Port and retain our spot at 2nd.

We don't have a choice but to win.

With how tight the ladder still is, it feels a bit like the run home last year when we had to win basically every single game.

But he would have to read a football post first

We have beaten this mob the last 3 times we have played them - haven't lost to them since 2021

Last time we played them Weiters kept Dixon to 1 handball and he was taken off replaced by Finlayson who had 5 touches

Rioli and Rozee the only notable inclusions

We have added Cerra , Cotrell , Motlop and Cunningham Pitto - lost TDK Williams Boyd Acres and Orazio

We should beat them

Carroll as sub you’d reckon.

The non-selection of Boyd is interesting. I hope it doesn’t mean Cerra in defence again.

Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if Walsh is a late out, Boyd comes into the 22, and Cerra plays midfield.

The non selection of Boyd is interesting, but a bit less so when you consider we have 2 defenders coming in (Gov, Kemp) and only one going out (Durdin)

Agree Carroll almost has to be sub. With an extra defender selected there is less need for Kennedy/Cerra to play back, which means they're likely to spend more time in the midfield rotations.

Carroll seems to pigeonholed as an onballer, and this will minimise his minutes in the middle.

Similary, with Acres going out we lose our best winger. Cunners is more likely to help fill the void on a wing, possibly rotating with Cottrell at half forward.

Agree

Their midfield is good. They are suspect elsewhere.

I have a feeling Voss would have been brutally honest with the group this week - he won't cop 4 weak performances in a row.

Looking forward to seeing us step it up tonight

Very concerned about 5 day break and also any late outs.

if we want top 2 (that imo, should be our goal) we're gonna have to win out. maybe we can drop 1 game, and still get there, but i'd rather not chance it.

should win tonight, pies will get up for us and hawks will be tough. but it's doable.

Win-Loss record
Carlton 16 - Port 21

I remember when no one had beaten Carlton more times than Carlton had beaten them. lets close the gap.

Cincotta to Butters again seems the obvious move, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts forward on Houston.

Cowan to JHF will be a good battle, if it goes that way. Our bloke is pretty good between the ears, so the handoff with Rozee shouldn’t worry him. It’s at the stoppages (thanks, Sherlock) where we need to be most wary of that.

Think we’ll win, but I’d be more confident if I weren’t still a bit shell-shocked from the GWS game. ELEVEN goals from stoppage - and it was hardly an aberration. Yes, George will help mitigate that stat somewhat, but he almost always sets up as the sweeper & looks to go backwards from first possession. The opposition doesn’t need to win the clearance if the ball is going their way regardless.

Blues by 81.

81 point win. That's some kind of shell shock you've had to endure.

Hewett does look to go backwards, but if there's no one to give it off to, he continues his turning circle and either gets the kick away, or keeps his hands free, and stong enough to hold his ground to give off the handball. These days he can't just take the tackle after he's received given he has 0.5 sec for prior opp. I know that by the jumper he's wearing.
