Defensive stoppages have been a problem for a couple of years. Whether we've had 1 ruck or 2. I'm unsure if it's the defensive coach or the stoppage coaches responsibility but it needs to be sorted out. It's already cost us 1 game this year (Nick Daicos goal) and it's hurt us several other times. We too often leave a lane in the corridor for opposition players to run through. It drives me nuts.

Is that correct?

it would be for sure. when we started playing with pittonet and tdk, and we'd lost 4 out of six. way back then we were the worst team in the league for defending points off stoppage.

i wrote about it back then, how our stoppage game is feast or famine. we're literally either scoring from it, or being scored against from it.

hence the whole bit about how we should do away with caring about stoppage and play the high pressure and turnover and look for the 'chaos ball' which the pies took to the flag last season. we have the cattle for that.
This is the 1st game we have played 2 rucks where Saad and Fogarty are in the same team.
You will have a different opinion after tonight

And Marchbank

And it's the first time this year we've played 2 rucks when the maximum temperature is scheduled to be 13 degrees on the 13th of July on the very same day Crippa plays his 200th.
So the previous 2 wins from 6 games don't count because we're not contemplating all contributing factors!

Let's wait to see if we're actually playing 2 rucks before the debate returns.

I am heading off shortly to the game.
There has been so much media about Cripps, and well deserved.
I can't help shake that awful feeling things may not go well today, bloody hope I am wrong.

My memory may be failing me, but just over a year ago when we were losing every week with an average score of 6.8.44, the criticism was that we were setting up with too many behind the ball at stoppage and giving ourselves no avenues to goal. This year, as braithy eloquently put it, we're feast or famine at stoppages, but the net result has been pretty good. Ideally we would tailor the approach to the match conditions, or we'd have the leg speed to cover both sides, but I can also understand not wanting to be risk averse. Gotta be bold to win.

I feel nervous. Yes I am confident in this team. Yes they’ve delivered the best 12 months of footy in my life. But we need top 2 and we cannot drop another game! So much on the line

i think it's player related. they switch off/ get lazy. there always seems to be one mid that doesn't track a run, or stand goal side from their direct player and the stoppage, or they simply just ball watch from 5 yards away (Walsh watching daicos kick the winning goal Vs pies).

drives me nuts too.

it's baffling, the team selections tbh. does my head in.

we better be switched on from opening bounce, and hitting our targets and clean with the ball. this lineup cannot chase the dogs if we turn it over cheaply.

imo, that's where this arvy is won or lost. we're clean with the ball and efficient, we win. if we're not. its gonna be a dour afternoon filled with lots of swear words.
