i want to float something ... i dont rate sydney's as that far ahead of the rest of the competition.

now, hear me out ... they play the SCG better than anyone, but they have been "lucky" where they have played mostly all the top 8 sides at the SCG.

v Dees (SCG) - won
v Pies (MCG) - won
v Dons (SCG) - won
v Tigers (MCG) - lost
v Eagles (Adelaide) - won, doesnt really count
v Suns (SCG) - won
v Hawks (MCG) - won
v Giants (SCG) - won
v Freo (Freo) - won
v Blues (SCG) - won
v Dogs (Marv) - won
v Cats (SCG) - won

only 2 / 8 games against current top 8 sides actually played away from home ...

now im not suggesting they arent going to finish top, with the Crows, Giants, Freo (At SCG), Saints, North in next 5 games, they would basically need to fall off the bridge to not finish top from here ... and with the very likely hood of two home finals its the Swans vs ??? in the GF ... but gee, id fancy any other side playing them on the G on the big day ..

I've said this before too.

They've been a bit lucky with getting the good teams at the SCG, or when they were struggling with form/injury, or both.
Sydney are going ok and are red hot favourites and rightly so
They have managed the injury curse better than most and have kept players on the park. 16 players have played every game and another 2 have only missed 1 game
Injuries to Mills and Parker has actually improved their team.
Other than Tom Macartin missing a few and Rampe missing a couple they have been able to put on the same players on the park each week.

A few injuries to a few key players and they will come back to the pack

in 1995 a friend of mine who was besties with wife of SOS told me during that season that SOS reckons that it all comes down to injuries. every year. every club. we got lucky i guess!(i still think we were the best team that year by a country mile!!)

So I got to the G real early and started running out of things to do. I thought it might be interesting to look at where the teams were when we've played them this year. Here's what I found.

We've played top spot 3 times.
We've played 2nd 3 times.
10 out of 13 have been against a side in the top 8 at the time of playing. (Slightly skewed because I counted Brisbane as 2nd given they were runner up and Richmond were 8th of 8 players in round 1)
The average ladder position at the time of playing is 5.6.. if I count Richmond's last year finishing position, it makes it 9 of 13 top 8 and average 6.

Anyway, the pre game show is starting so I'm not going to work out other clubs, but I dare say no one else is within cooee of us for draw difficulty

Even if you take out Brisbane and Richmond, it's still been a hard run.
We've nearly always played teams in form and at their best.

In summary, we've had the opposite of Essendon*'s run

They were talking about it on the ABC podcast during the week, our average opponent position is 2 places higher than anyone else's IIRC, and I think Geelong had the 2nd hardest run.

Chris Scott mention that re Geelong in defending one of their recent losses, either against us or the one before i think. he said it’s an honest answer he wouldn’t have given ten years ago as a coach. if you play good teams sheen they’re in form and lacking injuries then it’s a lot harder to keep winning games like a good team should. Geelong’s run has been one of the toughest was the inference.

they sure bounced back against bombers.** so anybody saying we beat a team desperately out of form is kidding themselves.

At least it's not 6.10pm or whatever bullshit they forced on us last year.
