From the Age.......

The host of an unofficial Blues fan podcast has had his Carlton membership revoked until the end of the 2026 season, following inappropriate remarks about a popular female-focused supporter group called the Carlton Besties.

Earlier in the week, host of The Jumper Punch, Rocco Stagnitti, said he would “punch the f--- out of the Besties”, while discussing a charity boxing match between content creators, prompting laughter from the other three male panellists.

As Denis Pagan coined it..............'Media Street' is fraught with booby traps.

Stagnitti and his besties stepped onto the street and tripped over a crack in the pavement. They weren't the first and won't be the last.

If you are gunna have opinions, you have got to expect to offend someone. And if you don't know by now, taking offense, is the greatest past-time, currently going around.

You only have to look at the demise of Stephen Colbert from American Late Night TV. Someone took offence.

So should his membership be banned
Absolutely
When does the club stop relying on pokies

Stagnitti must play the pokies

Therefore, it's the board that is the real culprit

Step 1: sakc the board
Step 2: burn the pokies... don't even sell them... immoral to make money from a domestic violence enabler
Step 3: mucho premierships

This is true of Carlton even if we had no poker machines, they’ve given me more misery this century than I care to remember.

The board even rewarded the podcaster by revoking his membership for this season...

I wonder if he’s still allowed into our poker machine venues?

Football is the peoples game . Isn't it ? well, it used to be . It is now some corporate monstrosity that has made the game unrecognisable . And the media are the puppets of the AFL . They serve there master well . As far as I'm concerned all these new age podcasters are reclaiming the game . They are bringing it back to the ordinary man in the street . Good on them I say . Watching any of these footy shows on television or Fox has become unbearable . Unwatchable . One cookie cutter clone after another . Newspapers the same . I get most of my footy information from this very site . Fruck , Bluevain and Bondi and alike shit all over Jay Clarke and Gerald . I also tune into Heath Buck , Terry , and Pommie at draft time . Also a couple of young blokes who I can't recall at the moment . I also tune into those Jumper Punch blokes on Sunday night coz one of my all time favourites David Rhys Jones is on it . Funny thing about Rhys is he is not on main street media anymore coz he doesn't walk the company line . He calls it how it is and that doesn't go down to well with big brother . Its pretty obvious Davids fellow panelists particularly Rocco are die hard Blues supporters who are obviously highly strung and a bit over emotional . Better that than not caring . A bad supporter is better than no supporter . Give them blokes credit , they have stuck around through terrible times and have not abandoned the sinking ship .
I only watch there Sunday night show so didn't see the offensive part . Poor form for sure but the bloke has apologised and I am sure he or any of the other blokes wouldn't dream about striking women or violence against them . I have never heard these blokes speak in a derogatory manner about women and I am very surprised this has come about . I reckon the media have taken advantage of the situation and are exploiting it to the max . Its just given them a chance to kick the podcasters . They can't hack the fact that they haven't got a monopoly on us any more . Good on the podcasters I say to give us an alternative information source .

I agree with the general sentiment that podcasting has democratised sports journalism. I'm not as scathing of mainstream sports journalism - you have to keep in mind that they operate within stricter time/ column inch constraints and have to communicate to a wider audience with varying levels of prior knowledge - but there is a great benefit in being able to go deep when you're focused on one team.

Putting a different spin on what you're saying: if podcasts are reclaiming the game for the fans then they arguably assume a level of responsibility as public broadcasters and unofficial representatives of their clubs. Put it this way, if someone went into Footy Classified and made a quip about "punching the @#$%&! out of" a group of women, that would be the end of their career. Podcasters have enjoyed a certain immunity as amateurs and "just like a bunch of blokes at the pub", but as their importance grows they will need to learn self regulation.

Note: I am not expressing any opinion about this particular case; I've not heard the quotes in context and I know these stories can take on a life of their own. But I don't think this is a case of the mainstream media trying to crush a challenger, I think it's a fair question whether podcasting can remain the wild west as its influence grows.

It's hard to have sympathy for the bloke.

I get that it was meant to be a joke, but it's not even remotely funny.

Big time fumble.

They were talking about a sanctioned fight. There was no DV element until the HR crowd mobilised to knock off their SM outrage quota for the year.

Unbearable, unfunny cauliflower. Suffer in your jocks.

I’m with Mickstar.

Ive seen the incident and knowing that guy Rocco and the form of TJP, it was a joke that went wrong.

He was making the point he was the weakest content producer ans wouldn’t win a fight in the charity contest, then he had a light globe moment he could beat the girls….problem is what he actually said…he would be able to punch the shit out of them [the female content creators] as his only chance of winning.

It just went wrong. He apologised. I wish the content creators get together on a show for Rocco to show his remorse. I bet he feels rotten for saying it, and copped his due for saying it. The next episode will be worth watching, if he’s on, and he should be. I rarely watch them and a few others. Sometimes they get their facts wrong, pretend to know more than they do. Too hot headed for my liking. But time fillers.Glad they exist. You don’t have to watch them

FMD. Trying to find any way to excuse or explain those shitty comments! The reactions of the other clowns on the podcast spoke volumes. It may not have been a planned joke, but it was definite riff on gendered violence and "oh yeah, cos blokes are tougher than chicks". The idiot that made the comment about Carlton Respects should also be copping some heat. They all @#$%&! laughed at the joke and not one person there had the balls to call the joke out. They are all complicit.

Do better FFS.

Think I need some more time away from this place. :banghead:

Maybe at any there time it could be explained away as a stupid joke, but it's obvious they have no respect or awareness of the Carlton Respects round or they never would have said such a thing when it should have been top of mind for them.

Yeah , a case of foot in mouth disease . Shit , who hasn't blurted out dumb shit you regret . The bloke realised his mistake and owned up . I mean , do we want to put him in stocks in the village square ? thank goodness for the podcasters coz mainstream media is unbearable these days . Leave pass to Jason Dunstall , Leigh Mathews , and Martin Flanagan and Andrew Wiu from the Age . Andrew is a great up and coming young writer .

The dude initially doubled down, then when he realised that wasn't cutting it he gave a "sorry if you were offended" style apology.

The guy braying "Carlton Respects" after the "joke" is no better.

If you’ve watched their shows or sat near them at the footy, this was not even in the top 10 worst things that the TJP Crew have said or done.

That being said, he’s copped his whack now, no need to ruin the blokes life like some of the militant types are doing (tagging his employer ffs). He’s been banned by Carlton for the rest of the year, that’s enough for them to hopefully learn.

Rocco I feel will learn from it, the rest of them….im not so sure. We’ll see.
