Personally I believe the backline is functioning so well, they'll want to bring in a VFL defender who is playing under the same defensive system. If not 2.
100%. Schumacher for newman ... i'd start with walsh in the simmo role and bring stocker off the bench to chop walsh out in the middle with.
i still wish we'd upgraded phillips this offseason gone. we've never been able to rely on kruezer his entire career to stay fit for long.
Walsh has done all of his training to date with the mids. Why would you put him into defence now the 6,6,6 exists. There is no 'Simmo role" any more. It's every defender playing on a forward. The days of loose defenders are gone.
The backs play to a system. Walsh would have little idea of what it is. Plus if you push him back and he gets a flogging, what does that do to his confidence. You don't move players who are performing well.
We have backs who the assistant coaches have said are not lacking physical conditioning. I know some posters are saying they're not ready. According to Dale Amos, Willo is physically ready. I suspect he'd know better than anyone here.
If he's ready, play him and leave Walsh where he is thriving.
it was pretty hard to tell at the ground, but i'm positive walsh started the richmond and port games on the back flank??
that tells me he spent a fair chunk of his 1st offseason with the backs? and simmo is rarely on a man. he drifts around the park, gets up on the wings and works the zone across half back.
plus stocker chopping walsh out and walsh moves to the middle, then comes back when stocker needs a break. walsh is covering 16kms a game ... the kid doesn't rest, so i'm sure where ever he plays he'll kill it.
i'd just love to see stocker out there in that quarterback role out of defence. and, if willo is fit he's a ready-made replacement for Newman.
